That's a good idea. I guess it's just harder when you need something urgently, the 'pick up' option will still show it as being in stock until they get around to telling you it isn't.

Retail ain't what it used to be, where each store "stayed in it's own lane".

What next?
Fridges and toasters at Bunnings?

Maybe then we could call it Masters 2.0.... except with unhelpful staff (if you can find them when needed), and monopolistic anti-competitive pricing, along with an arrogant take it or leave it attitude towards both their suppliers and customers.

And don't get me started on inventory reporting... when the website says low stock - it means out of stock. When it says in stock - it could mean out of stock, and new stock is on the way.

Q) If other enterprises can have accurate real-time inventory reporting, why can't Bunnings?

A) Arrogance. They couldn't give a flying fcuk if customers have to drive all over town to multiple stores just to find something that is supposedly "in stock".

Oh wait... I got started on a pet hate. :giggle:
Boy, do I miss having Masters as a competitor.

And in Breaking News down under in 'Stralia...

Total Tools is starting to sell gardening products.

Having worked retail for a while in my 20s, a lot of that inaccuracy in the inventory systems was from bums stealing from us, and the time it takes to find out what's been stolen and how many (and then they get coded out as shrink which fixes the issue). I dont know about arrogance, the only time i ran into people who thought we were arrogant were people who had an attitude problem and were acting like a-holes in the first place :)

I worked for part time for Lowe’s last summer and yes shrink (theft) was a huge issue. And if the floor supervisors aren’t doing their cycle counts accurately then the systems never get updated to reflect. So if it shows 5 but it’s really zero, then the next time stock comes in that number goes up but is still off by 5. So on and so forth.

It’s not really a systems issue, it’s just lazy employees or managers not accurately updating their systems…or the night stockers adding inventory to the wrong item.

Best way to buy from Bunnings is order online for later pickup, then let them do the running around and finding the product. They will contact you when they have it ready.
Story Time with DFB.........................

For the very reason you outlined, I placed a click and collect order. Easy process, click what you want, pay online, go in and pick it up when they send you a message. Excellent.....................................

When I went in to collect it, I went to the desk and gave my name. Suprise, they couldn't find the order. Oh, perhaps try the trade desk.............................Go to the trade desk, oh..................we can't find it either, were you advised it was ready to collect........................um, yeah, pretty sure I was sent multiple messages. Many minutes later, oh, here it is............................right in front of their face. Great, let me get out of here!!!!

Hang on....................why is this broken? Why would I pay good money for something that is broken? I will admit, I was so fed up by this stage that I lost my temper and turned into THAT customer. Ashamed to say it, but I bluntly told the staff member what the hell would I want with a broken storage container? And cue another wait for another container to be found.

In all of that time I wasted, I could have driven to the store, walked in and grabbed what I wanted myself, put it through the register and got out and back home in LESS time. Never again.

I worked with an ex-Bunning's admin employee for a few months last year. The standard practices that I was told about were mind blowing.

For example, buying a plant, then going back three weeks later with a pot of dirt and a stick and claiming warranty on it. Clearly the plant hadn't died, but the standard practice is for a no-questions asked refund. Or clear case of customer negligence with regard to a tool or similar, but again, no questions asked refund is the norm. This basically creates a culture of customers who expect that same "service" in every single retail store.

But who funds this? From what I learned, its actually the supplier who wears this cost, not Bunning's. And in the first place, Bunning's have named THEIR price for what they pay for a given product, not the other way around. In the plant world, growers were making virtually nothing on every plant they sold to Bunnings, but if they say NO, then their business collapses overnight. Thier only option is to keep going, making enough to survive, but not enough to thrive. In which case, what's the dam point?

But the average consumer is completely oblivious to all that. All they see is the price, and that price is cheaper than the competition. Done.

OMG, could those product names be any cruder? I'd say they are even worse than Bowden's.

for sure. at the place i worked at, it was simply not enough employees to do cycle counts daily, so it was a shit show with certain high shrink items.

Latest order from Obsessed Garage came today. New Pressol bottles with stainless tips, upgraded seals, and fluorinated bottles to prevent leeching.

IMG_2212.jpeg
Only took them 5-years to get there.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback once you have used them. The stainless tips look awesome, as do the updated labels!

Sadly, it will be quite a while before they land here as I think the Pro-Series are exclusive to Obsessed Garage, meaning retailers have to buy them wholesale through OG. Not that I disagree with that, Matt funded the development and put his reputation on the line while sorting out the issues with the original versions.

Ranger Wildtrak Detail 2025 – Part 2

With the “hard” work done yesterday, today was about getting the coating applied.

Pre-Coating Prep -

According to Carpro, you can coat straight over Essence without using a panel prep. This was done to help prevent marring on really soft paint. Having said that, they also say using Eraser prior to coating won’t impact the layer Si02 left by Essence. They do however recommend waiting at least 1 hour before using Eraser to allow the Si02 resins to cure. Likewise, you need to wait at least an hour before applying the coating.

In my case, the car sat overnight, which meant I was good to go with Eraser. This was mainly done to remove any dust that had settled overnight.

Products Used In This Step –

- Carpro Eraser
- TRC Eagle Edgeless 500

Ceramic Coating –

There was no choice to be made which coating I was going to use, it was always going to be Gyeon Can Coat EVO. This was mainly because I already had an open bottle, but also because I know it well by now. I struggle with coatings, all bar Can Coat EVO and ADS Wheel I have found finicky.

Now, “real” detailers tend to snub their nose at Can Coat, suggesting it isn’t a “real” coating. And from an application point of view, they are correct. However, you cannot argue with the coating-like hydrophobic qualities and the gloss Can Coat provides, it even hardens the applicator like a “real” coating. Considering how easy this product is to apply, wipe on and wipe off with no flash timing, perhaps the “real” detailers see Can Coat as a risk to their skillset and business viability? While there are still some things to watch, for the most part Can Coat provides ceramic coating performance to a wider audience.

The whole point of Can Coat was to make it as simple to apply as possible. That is why it doesn’t come in a small glass bottle with a dropper or pipet. Nor do you apply it with an applicator in a criss-cross pattern, you don’t even need to wait for the coating to flash/sweat/rainbow before leveling. Instead, Gyeon’s application method involves spraying the coating into a folded towel, wiping over a section, then level immediately with a second towel. It’s as simple as that.

Now, having said that, I modify the Gyeon method by swapping the folded towel for a microfiber applicator. Yes, I know I said that you don’t use an applicator, but I’ve found using a larger microfiber applicator such as the TRC Pearl’s to be quicker and easier to manage than having a to continually re-fold a towel. Work smarter, not harder. The application is otherwise identical.

1. Start by priming the towel or applicator with 5 or 6 sprays, from then on you only need 2 – 3 sprays per section.

2. Working section to section, wipe the applicator over the panel, making sure to achieve total coverage. This can be hard to read as Can Coat is very thin, you often won’t see the product on the panel.

3. Immediately after application, wipe off the residue with a low pile towel. I actually then follow with separate towel to be sure I leave no high spots.

From here, continue working section to section using the same method.

NOTE - Always spray Can Coat away from the vehicle to prevent accidental overspray and possible high spots. I’d also remove uncovered vehicles from your working space, have the garage door down to eliminate wind, and absolutely avoid having a fan running. NEVER spray directly onto the panel.

For the Wildtrak, I applied Can Coat to all painted surfaces, taillights, trim and glass. I normally use Gyeon Quick View on glass, but I decided to see how Can Coat would perform instead. From here, I applied Opti-Coat Lens Coating to the headlights, then some Carpro Perl on the tyres.

IMG-5260.jpg

Four hours later, I then applied a layer of Gyeon Cure. This helps protect the coating as it fully hardens and adds some slickness missing from Can Coat. Again, this went on the paint, trim, lights, and glass.

IMG-5265.jpg

Products Used In This Step –

- Gyeon Can Coat EVO
- Gyeon Cure
- Opti-Coat Lens Coating
- TRC Pearl Applicator (QTY:1)
- TRC Edgeless Pearl (QTY:2)
- TRC Eagle Edgeless 500 (QTY:2)
- Scangrip Sunmatch

Finished Result –

Better late than never, the Wildrak is back to spec. At some point, I would also like to get the wheels off this thing and coat them as well.

Yeah he’s told the story a few times about his struggles working with them and getting Pressol to see there was a market to be had in car detailing. Sounds like they just didn’t really care that much to make progress at any speed.

I’ll probably start assembling stickers and products into the bottles this weekend. I’m still waiting for my black shelf from OG that I ordered with these so I’d have a place to put them, my cabinets are full.

I do wonder if he knew how long it would take to make these bottles application appropriate at the beginning, would he have devoted so many resources to the project? Ultimately, the clear "household" bottles he selected were never intended for industrial chemicals, those were basically for floristry and household cleaners. The kinked black and red bottles were the superior version to begin with, but the shape didn't permit the application of those fancy labels. As is obvious, I'm a fan of the OG concept, but the Pressol endeavor was rather silly when better spray bottles already existed, be that from Pressol themselves, or other companies.

For the labels, if you have a head gun, use it to lightly warm the bottle and label before application. This makes it easier to reposition if you don't get it perfect first shot.

New Pressol bottles with stainless tips
Just got an email from OG yesterday saying the Pressol order had shipped and I had completely forgotten about it because it had been quite awhile.

I have to say, I've never been a fan of the Pressol "double pump" idea but because the spray pattern is so good, I opted to try one with the stainless tip. We shall see.

This product (Reload 2.0) looks and sounds perfect for my requirements, I particularly like the fact I can get it everywhere (including glass) :like:

I’ve bought the small bottle (100 ml) to try as I’m fed up (and restricted on storage) with keep buying stuff, then shelving it … lol

They claim 100 ml (ÂŁ6.95) is enough for two full car applications, so it will give me plenty to try out, at only a small cost penalty to buying the next bottle size up.

It should be arriving with a bottle of brake buster, which is a new product for me as my normal wheel cleaner seems to have escalated in cost somewhat since it’s last purchase.

Aw, Isn't It Cute ... ? :giggle:

Brake Buster is an excellent! I love how it foams and lathers, however its also extremely slick and contains corrosion inhibitors.

For tyres, you will love how it lathers up under agitation, the best I have found. I use it undiluted for maximum ability on tyres, or foamed for light cleaning.

On wheels, you may find Brake Buster at full strength a little aggressive, in fact it will strip waxes and products like Hydr02 or Wet Coat. I use it in my foam cannon, which in effect dilutes it. What I like most about the foam is that it sticks to the vertical surface of a wheel and wheel arch, therefore extending your working period. If you don't have a foam cannon, then one of the pump foamers will work, or just a regular sprayer, both diluted at 10:1.

IMG-3401.jpg

And for those who think Brake Buster can't do some heavy lifting when required, this is it attacking never-before cleaned tyres...............................

Undiluted, no contact....................................

After scrubbing...............................................

Thanks :like:

I'm going to put it in a Meg's spray bottle (the same as what's hung on your bucket) and start at 10:1 :like:
