What will happen to the steering wheels, if this really gonna happen? It is not so easy to switch to another supplier within days.

Yeah, it's not just steering wheels. The Matamoros strike in January shut the plant down for two weeks because of a shortage of many parts. They just restarted without steering wheels.

I don't think the border would be closed to commerce. I also don't see anything meaningful happening either regarding immigration. It's already illegal to enter the country without going through an official channels. In spite of this, 1000s do cross over illegally (going both ways!). What exactly is Trump going to do, make the crossing Double Illegal? Even if he made some grand gesture, Mexico can't afford to lose American trade. There are so many products manufactured in part or whole in Mexico, not just in the auto industry.

I think his point is, Mexico needs to help stem the tide. It must be pretty obvious when a bunch of tour buses are heading towards the border. There is an obvious economic hardship for both countries in shutting the border. But maybe if faced with that, Mexico will do its part.
