Hey All,

Greetings of the day! I went to the nearest Ford dealership for 40k miles service. They recommended Throttle Body Service, Brake fluid exchange and Cooling system fluid flush. I already got brake flush done this year. So when I checked with the agent he told me that these are just recommendations and I can choose whichever I need. I never got throttle body service or cooling flush done till date. Do you guys recommend getting these done? Looks like they are expensive $180 for coolant flush and $130 for Throttle body service

Ya, when I went through the previous post in our group everybody recommended just getting the oil change so pretty much was planning to not get any of these done. But since Ford recommended these at 35k so I was just wondering
  • Coolant replacement
  • Drive belt replacement
  • Auto transmission service
  • Inspection and possible replacement of spark plugs and fuel filter

These dealerships are getting greedy. They are supposed to recommend only something that's needed.

I would suggest changing the coolant if its original since the car is over 5 years old and I intend to do mine before I put her away next month. I typically think coolant should be changed every 5 years regardless of mileage. Otherwise I think you are good..

Edit: I see manual says 6 years or 100k miles for the coolant so you you can likely go another year with this and I may too.

A dealer recommended an automatic transmission fluid and filter change for my 6MT car at 30K so.... yeah. Don't assume they're knowledgeable or looking out for your interests.

The service schedule is in the manual, but I may not adhere to it exactly. For example: changing coolant at 100K seems too long and changing trans oil at 150k also seems too long. I also change my oil at 5K intervals.

I would honestly just focus on the main services, engine, transmission, differential. The dealership is always going to try and throw in the extras you don't need. I did both my transmission and diff fluid changes at 50k miles.

Throttle body service is a complete rip off.

Do the transmission flush, rear diff fluid, oil change

Boost!!!

But yes these dealers are the worst, Diff, Tranny and coolant are the most important things that should be in your mind. I would follow the manual recommendations nothing wrong with being a little conservative on the mileage.

While you do the coolant flush don't forget new T-stat while you there as well as Water pump inspection.

I usually follow extreme conditions for my vehicles even thought I'm in WI. But I do like doing all fluids and spark plugs at 50,000 miles. However, that is with my normal cars. I also do brake pads every few years as preventative maintenance so that I do not have to replace rotors.
Not sure how the Mustang will fare as I'm not sure what mileage I'll put on a year. Right now about 1,000 miles a month, but it will be parked for the winter.
So like QcMan suggested, it might be more of a time thing for me rather than mileage.

Changing all fluids is a must for the longevity of the car. If transmission fluid is left till 150k then it's to late.
I don't know what they do for a throttle body service. Does anyone know?

They just spray a cleaner into it, while the engine is running. It's only effective if the throttle body is really dirty, enough to impede the motion of the throttle blade.

Just take the throttle body off, and clean it with a soft brush and some carb cleaner once every few years.

Iā€™m at 60,000 miles and really want to change my spark plugs. The dealer I go to is great with me and we know each other. Always had great service from them and know my advisor. Iā€™m just worried with everything I have on the car especially being tuned that they wonā€™t get the plug gap right and the car will run like shit when theyā€™re done. Iā€™m not sure how I avoid that. Iā€™m assuming since that it hasthe original plugs if they just gap it to OEM I should be fine but who knows.
