Before this I drove an '07 GT for a year. I had about a $20k budget when looking for my next car.

  • I thought about a 2014-16 Lexus IS with the F sport package (almost pulled on a '16 IS250 F sport before this), they look awesome but were across the board a bit too slow.
  • 5th gen SS but none of them came with the specific features I wanted. They look fantastic but certainly not as good as the 6g Mustangs.
  • '11-14 GT but no independent rear suspension turned me off pretty quick
  • A CPO deal on any German luxury, but I knew I would be paying out my ass because reliability issues... which seemed inevitable
  • A WRX or Dodge Challenger were briefly on my radar, but it seems the majority of previous owners on these cars specifically usually punish their car. Plus I couldn't find a deal I thought was great

I think after a multiple months long of searching I would likely end up with a Mustang. The Ecoboost is awesome for distance traveling, the 50 year appearance package gives it good seats, and certainly has enough kick for me to enjoy the crap out of it. After all, Mustangs have always been close to my heart.

For the record, this isn't a Versus post. I was just wondering if anyone else was considering other cars before they chose their stang.

The only other car I considered was a Corvette. Mustangs and vettes are the only two cars I really like.

2016 camaro ss, b8 audi s4, f30 bmw 340i, and f10 bmw 550i were the main ones. f10 550i was a distance last because of the potentially catastrophic engine issues. i was actually really close to buying a 340i m-sport before i found my 2018 mustang gt

I almost signed on a Focus RS, but too much of the same as my Focus ST.

Went to the dealer, sat in a Mustang, deal done. Special order took 2 1/2 months. Well worth it.

I leased a Challenger R/T from 2017 until last September. Turned that lease in and bought the Mustang a month later, didn't really consider any others.

FTR, I did like the Challenger, much different vehicle than the GT, but have enjoyed both.

I was on the fence about going eco or muscle. I test drove VW 2.0 turbos-various models, Subaru coupe, Mazda Mx-6, Dodge Challenger. The Dodge had a huge blind spot out the back, the VW turbo lag was horrible, the Mazda was nice, don’t like Camaro styling. The Mustang hit all expectations. I started with a 13 v6 that I loved, and traded it for a GT to get the new styling, and cooled seats(That SUCK)..the 5.0 makes it all better!

I had a 13 F150 FX4 supercrew with a 5.0, lease was up, so I started looking at other ford vehicles. I test drove a fusion sport, an explorer sport, an newer F150, a taurus SHO and a grabber blue mustang fastback with PP1. At the time I was finally able to get a toy as my last kid was about to move out. I went home and seriously considered the mustang, but told myself if I was going to spend 40K plus on a toy, I was going to get a convertible with a manual in grabber blue. Did a search on ford.com under the inventory search and there were very few convertibles in Cleveland in Feb. The ones I did find were automatics (most verts are) and were in colors I didn't want. So I expanded out to 100 miles and found it down in Hartville Ohio 96 miles away. Turns out it was just like the one I test drove, but in a convertible, so I snatched it up. Almost 3.5 years later and I still have it and it's exactly what I wanted, grabber blue GT convertible with PP1 and a 6 speed manual. Also as a bonus, thanks to marti-auto works, I now know that there are only 24 GT verts in grabber blue with the PP1

I was actively looking for a Corvette, but when I came across my current car it was love at first sight.
