It doesn’t. There’s no such thing as a 2.5 or 45 weight. It’s probably 0w40, possibly 5w50, with an off chance it might be 5w40.

why would you think that 0w40+5w50 = 0w40, 5w50 or 5w40 and not 2.5w45?

5w50 amsoil in the summer, half 0w40 and 5w50 in the winter. I also always include ceratec every oil change, atleast 1 bottle with great results.

There are specific breakpoints that determine grade. For instance, 16.2999 cst is 40 weight and 16.3 cst is 50 weight. So if you mix something that’s 15 cst (40 weight) with something that’s 20 cst (50 weight), then the result will be somewhere between 15 and 20 cst but it will be either more than or less than 16.3 cst. If it’s under 16.3 then it’s still a 40.

To add to the confusion, if it meets or exceeds the requirements of a 5w then it can be called a 5w or anything higher. Yes, you can put 5wXX in a bottle and call it 20wXX. If it meets the requirements of 0w the it can be labeled 0w or anything higher. So if a 0w/5w mix doesn’t meet the 0w requirements then its still a 5w.

Going to switch to RP 5w30 at the next oil change and run that year round.

relatively high zinc, low calcium and sodium, decent shear, doesn't appear to break down, good availability.

I'm only doing 1-3rd gear pulls once in a while. 99.99999% of the time this engine is operating normally with normal loads and normal temps.

Is it the best choice? No idea. But I'm confident it's going to work just fine. I'll crack a ring land or snap a crank snout LONG before my choice of oils causes any sort of issue.

The Engineers and Support Team at Whipple provided you a recommendation; I'd be most comfortable using it than trying to determine something else myself.

Regarding viscosities for higher temperature environments, have you asked them of this? Sometimes once you get towards a limit, another option/recommendation becomes available.

10 W fine except for deep freeze even then if synthetic it's ok
