what kind of power are you guys putting down with your forced induction 18's and 19's?

Im putting a twin turbo kit onto my 2018 mustang but ive been seeing a few posts now that these motors aren't holding up as well as the 15-17 coyotes. Is this true? my 2017 is making over 900 on the stock motor for over a year. now im getting worried with the posts of pistons breaking on the gen 3's

I guess I should say ive seen a few posts of pistons breaking and rods coming out of the blocks. I guess in the big picture its not that many out of all the mustangs sold but im not sure how many forced induction guys have had a problem.

One thing to keep in mind with forced induction on a high compression motor is to keep the timing low. Its ok to run 12 PSI but once you start adding timing its a ticking time bomb. I'm only running 7 PSI and timing is locked at 17 degrees on E85. If I were on 93 I wouldn't run more then 10 PSI and 13-14 degree's of timing. Thats just me, and I daily drive my car 64 miles everyday to and from work. I'd rather be conservative then have to replace a motor. Still a fun car at 700/700.

Ok I watch this forum pretty close and I’ve only seen one reported failure of a 2018 engine and it was a piston failure at 1000 rwhp on a mustang dyno. Can you link me to more?

There were reported failures of 2015-17 blocks at 850+ hp but 2018 added reinforcement in the weak area. The 18 also got a viscous damper which should help with the opg failures.

Mine made over 950whp. Beat on it almost everyday! Probably could've turned it up more but it was 3am and I'm sure the houses not too far away weren't very happy

People are not advertising they popped their motors. From shop to shop the owners talk. I know of 2 within the last 4-6 months that have popped and rebuilt their motors. These were brand new 2018 Mustang GT's with power adders.

Ok but the OP specifically mentioned posts about popped motors. I have only seen one.

Do you have any details on the 2018 failures? Power levels? Fuel? What broke?

My 2015 made 912 @ the wheels on E85, 15 psi and 18 deg timing stock motor with opg/cg. I have a 2019 on order and am going to put everything from the 15 onto the 19, undecided whether or not I'm going to build the motor yet or not. With the sleeves removed in the 19 that should remove that weak link and the rods and pistons should be able to take the same power. The ticking / knocking / wrist pin / cylinder scoring is what has me worried about using the stock parts.

Then you have the Midnight Performance 2018 TT GT running 8.60's @ 160 + on a stock un opened motor, not even opg / cg using a 2 step as well. Really makes you wonder if the new fluid filled balancer is the ticket to keeping the stock opg / cg happy as a 2 step is violent on everything including the timing components.

Yellow badger is only one I know of.
There was a guy that installed an old LPF kit he had on his 1st gen s550 installed onto his 2018. They didn't hook up the wastegate lines I believe and it spiked around 18+lbs... Needless to say his motor didn't last. That would've put him at well over 1300+ to the wheels

I read that they are on a 3rd 10r80 which is believable since it slips as for the stock motor unless someone actually witnessed it themselves it's all speculation. Seeing that Hellion has made over 4 digit power on the stock sealed motor one would think it is possible, are you implying that the motor is not stock as claimed ?

Being from Houston where they are I hear a lot of things. Whether they are true or not I'm not certain.

The hellion car made 4 digits with a 1.27 correction factor. Realistically it would've made about 950 which is where most twin 18's are sitting at, including myself.
I'll be out at the track next weekend to see just how fast I can get mine to go. So far on only 9lbs it ran 9.345 @147mph.
