Since i got the Technology package to get the better stereo, its kinda a bummer to not be as good as the one in my 15 GT i had with shaker system. I want to keep the head unit, whats the best route to add a sub to the trunk like factory, and upgrade the speakers? do i have to add an amp on to them? whats the best brand to get? Went to a stereo shop, they wanted over $3K to just replace speakers and add sub, is that a correct price nowadays? Is this something that can easily be done or should i have someone do it since im not sure what wires are coming out of the head unit for what. im in Phoenix if anyone knows anyone here.

Complete rip off for 3k. Buy all your speakers online. Get all wiring/harness online. Take every thing to another shop and see how much install is. There's a lot of good brands out there to choose from. I am an alpine and kicker fan. Subs and speakers are fairly cheap. Finding the decent cost labor in your area is going to be the hardest.

I'm in AZ too. I use Slangin Sound and Tint in Mesa. They have some really good deals. They carry Rockford and Kicker. They also carry some off brand BS that is super cheap, stay away from that.

One 10" kicker L3 and a mono bock amp should be less than $600. Skip the tears and do some components up front. My brother got the same setup a few years back and cost about $500 installed through from Black Friday specials. I've always trusted kicker. Good stuff.

I've wanted to try to buy some speakers and do myself but have confusion about buying speakers that require too much power or have the wrong ohms for the factory head unit.

Also for the sub, what options are people using for providing it an unamplified signal (which I assume is necessary?).

You need an amp for the sub. Match up RMS wattage with speaker/sub output on the amp you buy.

I've got to believe just changing the front speakers would make a huge difference. It almost sounds like the tweeter is a midrange or just as no range at all of the tunning is just that off in the processor. I will be doing something in the next few weeks, look forward to others input.

I just went to a place here in phoenix, they said they did another gt350 recently and gave me the same set up. they want to go all JL Audio stuff, box in rear for sub, 6.5" coax w crossovers in rear and in door/pillar, and a JL 5 channel amp class D, 4 x 100 watts for speakers, 500 watts for sub, and a control switch for sub to turn up or down. Parts alone are 3000. install and tax bring it to $3636, seems so high priced but is this the way to go for better sound?

Get a breakdown on cost. Sounds like you're getting raped on labor.

Can't I just throw in some kickers in front, center, 3.5, and rear and call it a day?

Enclosure shouldn't be more than 200 unless it's custom. Install seems legit.

i had just found all these as well online, just went looking. I dont want to install myself or try to figure out which wires come from the headunit to the amp and adjustments.

not sure what to do!

btw, the box came with the sub, but no amp, direct from jl audio website and says its $799, even crutchfield has a different one and i think wants $699

That's a damn expensive box! but if you buy all online it should save you a pretty penny. Good luck!

I would also say you are likely going to be just as happy with lower end components. JL stuff is nice but not cheap.
