I have had this 2016 Mustang GT for a year and I do love it. The manual transmission I feel is pretty good compared to others I have driven (pick ups, Supra, Hondas, etc). I am the second owner and I am toying with the idea of trading it in for something else. The only other thing that comes to mind is to return to Honda with the new Type R. I have thought of older Corvettes as well. Manual gearbox is preferred but if the car is still fun in the corners with an auto, I will look into it as well as I'm probably wrong about autos not being fun.

In short: New or used, what would be a more fun car than the Mustang with an absolute maximum price of $55k?

Type r would be far down my list.

If you are going away from the mustang id say..

Camaro 2ss 1le, supra (supposed to have a manual soon), a used gt350, pretty sure you can find a new bmw m2 around that price; used m3/m4/m5 maybe. New 400z coming out, c7 corvette.. any other used corvette..

After all those then id maybe consider the type r

C6-Z06. Way under your budget and a ton of fun.

You gotta lotta options. Be cautious. I went from 2015 mustang GT to a 2017 C7. I liked the C7 but I really missed the GT so I traded the C7 last year for a 2019 GT...I still miss my original 15...lol.

You could keep the 16 and get an older Vette for about 25 or 30. Best of both worlds!

Coming from a previous owner of a C6 Grand Sport, I'd be looking at a C7 or M2 Competition.

Does it have a manual gear box? I was looking at the M2 CS review on Throttle House but sadly that is way out of my budget lol.

$55K and don't need back seats?

2018 C7 Grand Sport. There's quite a few in the mid/lower-mid $50Ks, with 15K miles or less. They look great, the manual is outstanding (the auto in the C7 leaves a lot to be desired ...), plenty modern in terms of features/tech, etc.

Here's one for $54,995:

6.2L V8, 7SPD MANUAL TRANSMISSION, MULTI MODE PERFORMANCE EXHAUST, BLACK GRAND SPORT WHEELS, NAVIGATION, BACKUP REAR CAMERA, BLUETOOTH, HEATED/VENTILATED SEATS, BOSE AUDIO, HID LIGHTS, REMOVABLE TOP, BALANCE OF FACTORY WARRANTY, LOW MILES.

Maybe wait on the s650? You've had the car a year so far, maybe hold on to it longer. Just my suggestion

I think a ZL1 with only a few miles could be the most fun vehicle you can get for the money, supercharged 650 hp with 650 lb ft of torque! You should just look out that it is a manual or has the newer 10 speed automatic since the older 8 speed has a lot of issues.

The Z06, unless I'm completely misremembering, never got the stellar 10-speed. The ZL1 did, but there was some packaging issues with the Corvette platform, so they just waited it out until the C8 was released (with the 8-speed DCTG).

That's one reason why the C7 is kind of 'meh' with an auto, the manual 7-speed is terrific though (and the OP actually mentioned preferring a manual).
