I'm bad at posting things the day I do them but...

Thursday, I took my Mustang and my girlfriend's kid to my base's "hobby shop" and we changed the oil. This little 100-lb chick likes power tools, and her face lit up when I let her work the lift. šŸ˜Š

This oil change cost a little extra because instead of buying two 5-quart bottles, I bought one 5-quart that I poured, and five 1 qt bottles so the young'n could pour them easily. She got the hang of it quickly, and didn't spill much.

We also tried to install Vorshlag "brake cooling deflectors". My Mustang GT has the performance package, so it came with plastic air guides to help cool the brakes. The Vorshlag version of this guides is 3x bigger, and they just use the stock mounting points and bolts. Each air guide has 3 bolts, going into threaded holes.
Before taking the bolts out I sprayed them with Liquid Wrench, and we gave that time to work while we changed the engine oil.

We were successful on one side, but on the other side one of the Ford bolts broke. The aforementioned 100-lb chicklet twisted the end right off, with a 10" ratchet. šŸ˜… The remaining 2 bolts wouldn't hold the Vorshlag plate without rattling, so I put the stock air guide back.

I think the 2 factory bolts will hold the Vorshlag plate just fine, if I add some washers.
(The next time I take the car to a mechanic, I'll ask them to extract the broken bolt.)

After lunch and some cleanup we went to the abandoned Sears parking lot and had some manual transmission practice. Out of my 3 cars this kid has driven, she immediately decided the Mustang was the easiest to shift (Well, yeah with that V8 and heavy flywheel it's a LOT more forgiving than my Evo). Eventually we went around the mall's perimeter road 3 times, with light traffic.
She was tempted to drive the car home, but... Rush hour in SE Virginia...

Her first time driving a manual car "in the wild" needs to be with light traffic, like a weekend morning. šŸ˜

Nice car. I was thinking about getting that front splitter. How is the fit close up?
pretty much perfect, I used 3m vhb in addition to the supplied screws. Good bang for your buck

Now that that pesky little storm has passed through which they made its bark sound much bigger than its bite. Iā€™ve decided to do a paint correction on the GT. I just passed 60,000 miles and the car is in fantastic shape because Iā€™m so anal about how clean I keep it. I just figured Iā€™d do this and get a fresh start and see how it goes.

Replaced the Bullitt emblem with a black pony emblem during a short break from Hurricane Hilary yesterday. It looks more stealthy now.

That looks the goods. Does the pony cover the holes. Could be something I could do to replace the similar round GT badge our export cars got.

Tried unsuccessfully installing the Ford Performance exhaust. I guess it was poorly manufactured. One of the subframe exhaust hangers couldn't be bolted in. The mid pipe wasn't bent enough or something. Had everything else connected and gave it a short run while still up on the jack stands. Dammit the thing sounded good. The left side hung lower than the right, but both pipes seemed to lack clearance with two nubs on the lower half of the differential cover so they would end up rubbing and who knows what would happen then. :brokenheart::explode: Took the system off and reinstalled the stock one. $1300 down the drain and I'm sore as hell.
Kinda lame. I know Borla is the manufacturer so idk why they struggle to get it right.

I didnā€™t do the windshield. Itā€™s not legal here in IL (though plenty of people do it). I might do a 70% or 80% ceramic at some point but I do have a Mustang sunshade that works well. We can do a 3 or 4 inch strip at the top of the windshield but I donā€™t really care for that look.
I don't know if windshield tint is legal anywhere. I had 5% all around and 30% on my shield in my truck and never got bothered for it. Black on black too.
70-80% is likely to be unnoticeable if you're not looking real hard.

Iā€™m so sorry to hear that. My Borla FP exhaust fit perfectly when I put it on in 2019. Maybe they changed the way they make it. Iā€™ve never had any issues with mine. Hopefully they make good on it wherever you got it from.

Most states require a doctor's note. I just did 80% ceramic on mine to avoid hassle but still get most of the benefit, works great.

Yeah Iā€™ve seen plenty of cops drive right past guys with pretty dark windshield tint and never turned around to go after them. I have seen guys with the reflective tint get nailed, one guy was getting out of his car at a Target and got busted. I figure my car gets enough attention being Grabber Blue and a bit loud, donā€™t need to attract too much more attention to myself.

One other reason I didnā€™t get 80% right off the bat is I have to have a parking permit fixed to the windshield (laying it on the dash doesnā€™t cut it) and it gets changed annually. My tint guy suggested not to put anything really sticky on the tint as it could pull the tint loose when I go to remove it. I might try to find a clear sleeve that I can use to just slide the permit in and out of, havenā€™t decided if if I want to go that route yet. I was golfing with my dad and brother yesterday and it was 90+ degrees by the time we got done and the combo of sunshade and ceramic tint kept the inside a pretty decent temperature. So Iā€™m content with no windshield tint for now. But I might change my mind
