Are these a replacement for the factory caps or do they stick on top of the factory covers? They look good!

Link says those stick on top of the factory caps.

When I had my VB over the top stripes painted, I decided to do the mirror caps too. They didn't charge any extra if I removed and prepped them since I was already paying for the set up and clean up for painting VB. Point being, if you talk nice and bring donuts, you might get your dealer to paint your caps for very little when they are already painting something else the color you want.

They are ABS gloss black stick on covers

Also, there is just a hint of body color showing around the rear of the mirror, I think I might pull them off and use sealant instead of tape to make it a closer fit.

That's how I would do it. I would use a bigger cutting disk though. Helps with a straighter cut.
