Why disconnect in Virginia?

Just reconnected my fuzz buster (Escort 9500ix).

I took it down when I installed my frameless rearview mirror, COVID hit, and I simply never bothered to reconnect it. Now that I have a road trip planned to the Blue Ridge Mountains, might as well get it back up and running.

After a quick google search on where to put the hardwire wiretaps, an update to the software, and it is good to go! I'll just have to remember to disconnect it while in Virginia...

Thanks, I figured that was it.
In Virginia, it is not illegal to have a radar detector in your vehicle as long as it’s not accessible to the driver or any of the passengers in the vehicle, and it is removed from any power source. Radar detectors are not allowed to be used in Fairfax, as in all of Virginia, because it’s illegal to monitor whether you’re being monitored by law enforcement. It does not matter what model of detector is being used, every kind of model is illegal as long it’s accessible in the car. It doesn’t matter what type it is, if it is accessible, the driver will likely be charged.

When someone is driving from a state where it is legal to use a radar detector, and they in fact have a radar detector, the best thing for them to do is to unplug it from the power source, turn it off and put it in their trunk, or somewhere in the vehicle where it’s not going to be accessible by anyone in the car. Even turning the detector off and disconnecting it is not sufficient, if it is still accessible for use by anyone in the vehicle, then the driver can still be found guilty.
Also illegal in Washington D.C.

I installed a Gurney flap and drove the car out to Bolinas, CA - my first time in that quirky little hideaway. It was somewhere between misting and raining, which let me take this neat photo - and caused me to lose traction on the rear end coming home at quite a slow speed. That was kind of terrifying on those cliff-and-water side roads. I turned the spin into a drift and survived to post about it here on Mustang6G.

I’ve been really enjoying the Shelby and Roush this summer. I alternate driving them Both. I haven’t started the Hotrod all summer because it needs a little work and the Mustangs have been so much fun to drive. A friend with a lift told me he will be ready to work on the Hotrod this weeks sometime. In an effort to keep all my cars and truck inside out of the weather I had to move the cars around To have the Hotrod ready to move when my friend is ready. Moved the Roush in the back of the garage so I could drive the Shelby. When I was hooking up the battery tender to Roush I noticed it needs an inspection sticker in a week! The Shelby already has a new sticker. SO! I decided to move the Shelby into the back of the garage. (Not fun, it’s about a 10 point turn) I didn’t use the dollies because I couldn’t get the car close enough to the wall. I’ll drive the Hotrod for a few weeks then it will go in the back of the garage so I can drive the Shelby again. I can’t make the garage any bigger the city won’t let me. A little bit of a pain but I consider myself lucky to have my toys. They’re all fun in different ways. After driving the Shelby the Hotrod feels like a covered wagon with an engine in it! But still A LOT of fun! :)

Took my car to the dealership for an oil change. Second oil change in 4.5k miles (1 track day). Oil life monitor reads 37% - though I never reset it after the first change at ~2k miles.

Anyway, the dealership just called me that the tech drained the oil and THEN realized they don't have a new filter in stock. My options are

A) Leave the car overnight while they source an aftermarket filter. Lead time on OEM part is unknown.
B) Have the old filter put back on.

Leaning towards option B since I have another track day coming up in October, so realistically the oil is going to get changed again within 1,000 miles.

Curious to the wisdom of the crowd?

Also, they had this epic Ford GT in for service too:

Cool story bro

Awesome photo too, we should try to take some shots of our cars at Laguna!

I’d just get a Mobil 1 cartridge. Readily available and very high quality.
