What are the largest tires I can put on the 19x8.5 wheels?

I'm not very familiar with how tire sizing works. I have the painted aluminum 19x8.5 wheels with 255s. I want bigger tires in the back. How big can I get on the stock wheels?

265 is about as wide as you should go.

I've been meaning to ask this as well. I've also heard 265 is the max, but i'm wondering if 275 is at all possible with this particular set of rims.

You could, but there's a point where they bulge and do nothing from a handling point of view
