I've been doing a lot of research on summer tires and found that the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires out performed most of the top tire manufactures in its class. I cant personally give my opinion on them but the online reviews say they're really good tires. Plus with a tread rating of 340aa they should last for a little while.

Here is a link of the top tires in the Ultra High Performance tires category being tested head to head.

and for being under 200 bucks a piece thats a no brainer for me.
I have a set of these sitting in my garage. Great looking tire and really stiff sidewall. Only reason they're not on the car is because shipping got delayed and I had buy my BFG's

I have run the original Pirellis, the MPSS and the Extreme Contact DW's on the track on this car. The Michelins give the best grip (quantitative comparison below). The Pirellis were OK, but wore out very quickly and had a lot less grip. The Continentals are a nice street tire and very good in the wet. They are very forgiving and easy to drive on the track, but they lack the ultimate grip of the Michelins. I liked the Conti's at least as well as the Pirelli's for grip and the Conti's wear like iron in comparison. They are a great buy.

OK, here are the numbers. With the Michelins I regularly pull 1.12-1.15Gs at the track in cornering, up to 1.04 braking. With the Contis I couldn't break 1 G to save my soul. Got .96 cornering and .98 in braking. Those are not bad figures, they are just significantly lower than the Michelins. On the street, I doubt you would notice the difference unless you drive in a very anti-social way in which case you won't be on the street long:first:. The Contis are a terrific buy for the street.

I hope this helps!

It just comes down to what your going to use the tires for and then deciding what is the best fit.

These.....These are even better than my stock Pirelli's. Would work better in harsh weather than those stock summer only POSs...LOL

Does this sound like a good price?
Conti DSW 06 - 255/40/19 - $211 each in Walmart
and there is a $70 rebate from continental on purchase of a set of 4.

tedj101 ... thanks for the hands-on comparison. For someone that doesn't track their car which would you choose between the Extreme Contact DW and the Michelin PSS? Looking for a good mix of comfort, noise, grip, and longevity.

While you can't go wrong with the PSS's, my road car (BMW) gets the Contis. At about 2/3 the price of the PSS's, it is no contest.

I hope this helps!

anyone with experience with the MPSS realistically how long can I expect them to last (mileage wise). I think I'm just gonna suck it up and pay the extra price, for the extra performance. Tire rack says they wear really well so hopefully that's the case
