I'm currently considering replacing my hood for multiple reasons. Reason #1 is this sheared hood bolt which was repaired with a tack weld but I hate it. This was sheared with just a ratchet and hand tightened not that tight. These bolts are real flimsy.

How it looks post repair:

Reason #2. My hood is not straight and also won't allow hood struts because it runs on the bracket on the passenger side and also the hood sits up too high on the passenger side fender towards the windshield and then sits too low on the driver's side when the struts are on. Before anyone asks, I am aware of every adjustment point on the hood with the latch, hood bolts, and rubber stoppers. It does not matter, hood struts don't work. I've done both Ford Performance and Redlines. The hood only looks decent without any struts.

So with all of this, I am considering the Vicrez GT500 style hood.

https://www.vicrez.com/vicrez-hood-air-vent-scoop-gt500-style-vz102169-ford-mustang-2018-2019-2020

The GT500 hood vent measures 28 inches wide, 31 inches long. The Mach 1 vinyl decal leaves about 4 inches on each side after measuring my own emblem.

I'll get the hood painted to match FJG then see if they can somehow color match my spoiler with the rain tray and do that. I'll have to buy a new decal and have the decal custom cut around the tray and still use it down towards the front of the hood to retain that OEM look. This will also fix my sheared hood bolt and may fit better than my current hood.

somebody posted this a year ago on IG I just didn't save the account. )= Looks good. I would love to see it with the decals. So I take that it can be done.

@Zelek, I think that is the owner of MGW shifters car. I think he is friends with some of the 500 guys. You might be able to throw it out there and see if you can get a response from the owner on fitment.

That picture above is impressive because he actually has the Quik Latch QL-50's installed and functional. That's awesome and I'd love to do that too.

You are correct I did remember that it was a "company car" just didn't save any of that info.

OP, I haven't seen it done to any Mach 1s on here yet, but I think traxiii was considering doing what you mentioned (or something very similar to it, anyway). Don't know if he already has the parts or not but he might have some insight for you after he picks up his car and has it done!

I like the look of that as well, I have noticed hood flutter with mine at 60MPH. The Quik Latch would give that extra piece of mind.

Yeah, the GT500 hood doesn't really have the flutter with the vents but I have seen someone say it flexes a little when going over bumps. The sad part is that I like the Quik Latch more for the looks than the actual function, haha.

I do as well, it is still an option, but that measure twice, cut once rule would be in full effect. I would pay for that to be done, my luck the hood would be cut in the wrong place.

Absolutely. A body shop will be doing all of this including hood fitment, possibly minor hood repair if its needed, and the QL install.

I am in the process. Sourced the suppliers for MP and Vicrez in China but the cost of shipping due to covid didnt make sense. I went with MP Concepts domestically. Hood arrived quick and in good condition. I have not been able to do a fit test yet (hopefully this Friday or Saturday). Will be in the paint shop the same day. Have to go to a good shop because these paints are somewhat exotic they all look different in different lighting especially FMJ. My shadow black should be easier, but as you can see its not just black. In person even Shadow Black looks different in some lightings (Like a very deep dark purple). A good shop will have software databases, and hardware to get a close match. If it's being blended you may lose more than just the hood decal. In my case after painting, I've been told the car has to sit for 3-4 weeks before you applying a wrap. This may be the case if you are also putting back the decals.

Makes sense. It needs to cure before sticking a vinyl decal back on. I'm going to visit a body shop either tomorrow or early next week to either fix my current hood situation or work on the GT500 hood and start the color matching process.
