Yeah in the past it was mechanical... grrrrrrr
By the way, I was just thinking, have they tried resetting/reformatting the APIM? Unless something inside of it is fried, this should work. I would also think that if the APIM is really bad you would have other Sync related issues.

I just wanna get it working so I can run the Apple Play module. radio works, voice says it in not set up but that is new since I tried to update it and it will not run apps , is this normal? I was trying to take two steps forward and instead stepped backwards here!

I try not to use the word normal when it comes to Sync. But no, I do not believe it is.

Once again, if everything was working fine before the attempted update I highly doubt it caused your APIM to fail. You need to have a further conversation with the dealer service manager.

Just FYI, check this out.

This is for Sync 2 but I just wanted you to see what was involved.

Alright guys... I figured it out..the wifi method didn’t work. It gave me the same errors as before. I broke it down into 4 installs. Each one didn’t take long to do. I’m up to date now with 3.0.

I’ll try to explain this where it’s easy to understand lol

Okay, pop in your thumb drive to your Pc and open it..

You'll see your folder of files and two other files. open the autoinstall file using notepad or wordpad.

itll look something like this

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G381-AS
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AS.tar.gz
Item2 = JR3T-14G423-BB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-AB
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz
Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

add a semicolon to each line except for the file you wanna install. that will look like this.. I added the [SYNCGen3.0_ALL] to separate them.

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]

I also changed the layout to separate each install. this is how you want it to look on your first install. also I changed the Item= and Open= to the value of 1. so when ya plug it into the car it goes to that file first..

when you go back for your second round... put the semicolons back and remove the next group of lines..

after each round it'll tell you that install was done and updates will reflect the next time you start the car.

the second round will look like this:

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.21 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

;[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.19205_PRODUCT]
;Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
;Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
;Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
;Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
;Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
;Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BF
;Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G381-AS
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AS.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = JR3T-14G423-BB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BB.tar.gz
;Options = AutoInstall

;[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
;Item1 = GB5T-14G386-AB
;Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AB.tar.gz
;Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

if you can tell where I'm going with this then you will have it updated in no time.

Thanks man.. I used to be rather computer savvy but once my head was stuck under the hood of a car or playing music... all that computer crap I learned in college evaded me lol...it’s been a while.

hopefully that’s simple enough to help others with the same roadblock I’ve had.

I think it just comes down to that it’s too big of a jump from 1.0 to 3.0.. all one one motion anyhow.. doing it in stages seems to do the trick when starting with 1.0.

I hate to revive this old thread, but I have been reading countless pages and I just can't seem to get anything to work. I am on sync 3.0, and I have a new hub from ford but the apple carplay is just not working. I have an apple cable and iPhone 11 pro max that I can use carplay in other cars, just not mine. I have a 2016 mustang premium. I installed the HU5Z-19A387-B (not the -A hub that everyone was saying to use years ago, as that hub is out of production and this is supposedly the new version of the correct hub) hub from Levittown and I never am able to get carplay to show up. I have done numerous resets of my phone and sync 3. I am leery of taking it to the dealer and facing some diagnosis charge bs. Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, let's start with your build version on 3.0. You have to have at least 20204. This is the CarPlay update. If you have the correct build # move on to settings for both your phone and Sync 3.

https://www.wheelsjoint.com/apple-carplay-on-ford-mustang-how-to-connect/

Hopefully it is one or both of these things. Good luck.
