Hi Guys,

I took this video when I dropped my car off at the dealership to have it checked out. The car is a 2016 Mustang GT PP with 8900 miles. What do you think the diagnosis will be? I'll be honest, it almost makes me sick thinking about it! This car was bought new and wasn't driven hard.

From the dealer? Mine held it for a week to just compare it to how another sounds. I scoped it myself and found damage in cylinders 7 & 8.

I wouldn't hope for much.

Yup, it's at the Ford dealer. At least it's still under warranty. Car is also way down on power! No check engine light(s) though...

What kind of damage did you find? Was it making the same noise as mine? I'd definitely try another dealer!

Ya, there's no way I would drive the car making that kind of racket. I wouldn't trust it to not leave me stranded on the side of the road.

I might as well provide a little more info... the car is 100% stock, right down to the tires. The only mods are a shift knob, a cat back exhaust, Steeda clutch spring, and a Rockford subwoofer. No intake, no tune, etc. I ran regular unleaded gas in the car since new. It's my daily driver in the summer and I drive it as such. Even when I do get on it here and there I usually don't rev it past 5,000 RPM.

UPDATE: The dealership called me back and they have not been able to pinpoint the cause yet. The rep did say that they think it's in the valve train and are checking the top end of the motor today. I will keep you updated as I get more information. I'm bummed, it's super nice out today and I'd really like to be driving the car!

:crying:

Dang, that sounds pretty bad. Let us know what the dealer finds, and hopefully it's something simple like a bad lifter or broken/collapsed valve spring which could show as a power reduction. I think someone did report a broken valve spring a while ago, so it can happen.

If that were a push rod engine....Anyway, sounds like possibly a follower tapping the hell out of a valve stem.
Tinny sounds like that come from the valve train. Deeper sounds come from the bottom end. I don't have good speakers on this 'puter so that is my "wild speculation"

UPDATE: I spoke with the service rep this morning and he said that it's a lifter and the parts are on order.

Would the head have to come off for this repair or just pull the cams out?

Well, that's pretty good news ... could have been a lot worse. And yes, the cam will have to come out to get access the hydraulic lifter/follower.
