I have a 2023 mustang gt premium pp I recently bought a k&n cai under heavy acceleration it would go into limp mode. So I contacted a couple performance shops they said to get a tuner and tune it with 93 and that would go away. So I contacted Livernois motorsports I purchased the tuner and they made a tune specifically. Has any one had any experience with tuning a 2023 gt livernois or any other tuner. Need help please

you might want to define the problem?

@Mikepol2 has a Livernois device and E85 tune.

The problem is with the cai the car goes into limp mode where I can’t change the modes and it cuts power. So I was told to get a tuner and tune the car. But I haven’t tuned it yet and I put the stock air box back on. But I was wondering if anyone that had a newer gt tuned with livernois or not and if I should trust it to do it. ESP since the car is still under warranty.

that's a rather important detail!

You're wasting your money/time on any CAI. But leaving that aside, Livernois does a good enough job. The quality of their A10 tuning is somewhat more up for debate. The king of doing that RIGHT is Wengerd.

Whether or not to pull the trigger and apply your tune is a matter of personal risk profile, and how accomodating your local Ford dealerships are when they come across a tuned car. No, reverting to factory tune doesn't hide the fact that you were previously tuned.

I tuned my cars/truck almost immediately off the showroom floor (not Livernois) because of rev hang, and Ford's fuel management has considerable room for improvement. Their A10 transmission behavior is just garbage in any mode not 'Normal'.

We don't know which transmission you have, but @ChitownStang can tell you how much Wengerd fixed his ownership experience.

While a '93' tune is worth something, the one you want is an E85 tune. That assumes the fuel is readily available.

Ya mine is a 6 speed manual not wanting a 10 spd auto. But was wondering cause I was told to put that cai on b4 tuning it. Then I would get the full utilization of the cai.

If Livernois did indeed tailor the tune they handed you to the CAI, then by all means install it when you flash the tune.

I really appreciate all your info. I have been concerned about it for a while. You really helped me feel better about going ahead with putting the cai back on and tuning it. I’ve heard I’ll get some hell a better mid and hi end results

Ya I’m wondering about that but there’s not a lot of gas stations that have it here where I live

Well, since non of the K&N offerings require a tune. Something went haywire with your install. Maybe a air leak or maybe the MAF was installed backwards.

It shouldn't go into limp mode simply because you have/had a K&N CAI without a tune. Yes, some CAI are tune required(not sure K&Na do though) and to take full advantage of it you need a tune. You may run a little lean without it. But limp mode triggering id be sceptical.

(Did you perhaps put the censor back in the tube the wrong direction? (Happens more than you think)

It can go into limp mode if ipc wheel torque error is being generated from the maf being too far off. It has happened to me...

Anytime I've seen IPC torque errors with just CAI it was almost always an issue with the tune. This would be the first I heard of it doing this just a basic K&N no tune needed intake. Not saying its not totally possible. Just seems very rare that's all.

I haven't checked K&N recently but none of their units even require a tune I think. Heck non of them even realistically flow more air than the stock AirBox.

If simply installing a run of the mill K&N CAI triggered limp mode, id certainly be looking past the CAI as the main issues and see it more as an aggravater of something else.

Again I'm not saying its not possible, but it's certainly not prevalent.

Yeah, I agree, it would be rare and strange. If op put the maf in backwards then who knows what could happen.
No offense op but the whole post seems strange to me and it's hard to follow. I'm not even entirely sure what you're asking. You have a tune, you don't have a tune. The intake you have doesn't require a tune, but you need a tune, and it goes into limp mode. You bought a tune, but now you're asking if the tune is any good, but you haven't installed it yet to see. Just confusing.... lol
