Hello,

It has come time to replace the tires on my GT350. I purchased it used in April 2019 but am assuming the tires are the original ones as the car currently has 14,500 miles.

The fronts are showing cord, and the rears are 4/32". The original tread depth seems to be 8/32" from Michelin's website so I figure I have a few thousand more miles, but I don't know exactly how far I can safely wear the rears down. In preparation I have called all the tire shops in my area, as well as my Ford dealer (and Michelin themselves) and while I can find the fronts (295/35/19) there seem to be no rears (305/35/19) available at all (backordered) and Michelin does not even have a production date for them.

For context, I'm just looking to replace with something at least as good as the MPSS in a stock setup without changing anything ideally--and it is used on the street only currently so I'm not wanting Sport Cup 2's or anything of that nature.

So, the questions I have:
  • Has anyone been able to find GT350 stock rear (305/35/19) Pilot Super Sports recently--or any tips on how to locate any? I am concerned if I replace the fronts now I may end up in a position where I have almost new Super Sport fronts and cannot get Super Sport rears and that it may compromise the cars grip/handling/safety in some way (am I being paranoid...?).

  • With 4/32" on the rear tires, I'm thinking I can replace the fronts only for now and continue with the rears as is--but when should I be concerned about tread depth affecting performance/traction etc (and also see above concern about ending up with mismatched front and rear tires in the future)

  • In a worst case scenario, is there a typical "almost stock" option for the GT350? I have seen recommendations for the Pilot Sport 4S but I don't know if there is a size for fronts and rears that do not affect ride height/odometer/speedo.
Thanks in advance for any help!

The supersports are being phased out and replaced by the p4s, so that should be your path for stock type of tires. They should have the same sizes as your car came with, so there will be no difference in ride/odometer/speedo.

Thanks for the reply EFI—that was my hope as well but none of the tire stores I talked to are aware of a PS4S in 305/35/19 and I did find this thread that implied it isn’t coming at all either https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/pilot-sport-4s-in-305-35-19.114691/

I talked to Michelin, they said they have no plans on a 305/35/19 PS4S. They said will continue making the SSports in certain sizes due to OEM commitments.

I am in Cali as well. I have 2 Mich SuperSports 305/35/19 with 6/32 tread on them. No plugs or patches. Where in Cali are you located?

I'm in San Luis Obispo, which is a bit of a drive. But I do go down south every once in a while so there is a possibility of buying them in the future, but I don't think I could do anything in the short term if you're hoping to get rid of them soon.

With 4/32" left on my rears, do you have experience on what tread depth you'd recommend replacing them? Trying to understand if the rears are an ASAP problem or a few months out problem--since I probably only put on 2000-3000 miles per year

Hi, thanks for the offer! Since it looks like you're in Ohio I assume there would be some hefty shipping costs associated as well so I may not be able to do that

They come in 8/32s so you are probably at or below the half way point. In dry weather 3/32s is the norm.

I was going to install them on my 2020 Mustang GT, but then I have to switch out the fronts which are 275/35/19s Conti SportContact Extreme, which still have about 7/32s on them. My Contis rears though are at 3/32s. I was hoping to move them quickly as I just bought them from someone local as well who went to a 305/30/19. which for me is to short.

The norm is 2 sets rear to 1 set front.

In the end, I think I'll just be going with just replacing the fronts now and placing an order for the backordered rears to get a set whenever they start production again.

Thank you for your advice and offer though, I appreciate it!

Hi have a few brand new rears if needed.
Sent you a PM!

I have a backorder with Discount Tire for these but it was weird. Originally they said this size was discontinued in the MPSS so I called Michelin and they confirmed it is not discontinued but are not showing production of new ones in the next four weeks.

Hopefully this is the case. I must have bought two of the last remaining ones a few months ago! DT had to ship them here to AZ from CA. I have a few years to wear these out, so who knows what will be available, then.
