I found a guy locally that has a 10r80 from a 2019, I am wondering if I would have any issues swapping his 2019 trans into my 2018? I don’t know if ford has something that would not enable them to be swapped (computer, or module not marrying to each other) if that makes sense. Anyone know?
Reason is mine has some issues that ford wants a lot of money for the repairs.

Just found out through alex (Zander13) he said I would just need to have the shift strategy downloaded with ford ids. I picked up a 12000 mile transmission for $2500 with a stock converter. It came out of a wrecked car.

2019 Mustang trans into a 2018 Mustang and you will be fine.

Zander is correct, just download the solenoid strategy/chracterization number from Forscan.

So I had the new transmission put in and everything worked as it supposed to. No updates or download required.
So you didn’t need to do any Forscan or software tinkering, just swapped the hardware and all was good?

I did the same with my 6R80. The transmission/valve body came out of another Gen 2 GT. Shifts perfect.

Hey Cory,

That's good to hear!

I thought that since the donor valve body would have a different coding or the donor VIN that the recipient vehicle TCM/PCM would need to be programmed with the correct info?

So, with the above, my follow up question would be - what happens in the event there is a future software update for the trans; would the owner then need to do something different using IDS or Forscan in order to flash the new update? Would't there be a VIN relationship issue between the car and installed donor valve body?

I don't believe the VIN between the transmission and body/engine have any relation to each other with actual shift strategies or applications. I could be wrong. As long as the platform from the donor valve body TCU control strategy is from the same model ie: Mustang GT/F-150/250 etc, they should be just a swap with no special programming.

That’s right. New transmission went in. Drove it for a couple of days.(noticed it shifted like stock. So I reloaded the tune that I had from Lund and all is good.

Great info fellas!

I'm going to add this thread to the main 10R80 thread for other user's future reference, because it's really good to know if someone else needs to do a similar swap.

One guy did (redmus IIRC). You'd be better off ( and cheaper ) buying a used Huracán . Haha.
