For those of you with track tires. What are you running and why. Thinking road race type like for the upcoming COCOA open track at Willow Springs.

If it's your first day in the car at the track I'd say stick with the stock tires

I was really happy with RE-71R's that i put on my GT. Really held up well and didn't cost too much.

The stock tires are pretty damn good. I run these on my BMW 128i for track days and have no complaints.

A lot of my autocross and track day friends have made the switch to the RE-71s and are killing it! I want to go with slicks, but having to run the 19 inch wheel is definitely limiting, unless you want to break the bank with the Pirelli's (305/690-19). The stock supersports really have surprised me on the GT350 though! Had the supersports on my M3 (F80) and I wasn't near as happy with them on that car.

I'm running contiforcecontact, why you ask, because $800 shipped. I haven't had them mounted yet but I'll be at NJMP on 10/24 and test them out then. I ran the OEM MPSS's 3 weekends this season, and although they're not a track tires per se, they performed admirably. I was running with the intermediate group, and always one of the fastest cars. If you have an extra set of wheels though (and have some experience) I would just run slicks like hoosier R7. If you dont have an extra set of wheels and you need something you can drive to the track with, than obviously your options are pirelli trofeo r ($$$$), michelin pilot sport cup 2 ($$$), toyo r888, bridgestone re-11 and a few others.

RE71s are autocross "cheater" tires. I don't think they'd hold up to road course track use on the heavy GT350. The stock PSS hold up very well.

I like NT01s A LOT better than R888. Unfortunately they only come in:

285/35ZR19
305/30ZR19
325/30ZR19

For your first track event, the stock tires are very good. For regular track use, I only run Hoosiers. But I have not yet looked to see if they have the right sizes for my R yet.

The RE-71Rs work great with this vehicle on the road courses. I am running the 305/30/19 square setup and have completed two events (four days) in the Texas heat (average ambient temp was 97~99F). They do not get greasy if properly inflated nor do they wear quicker than the Sport Cup 2s if the car is aligned correctly.

I have been traveling, but will post up a non-scientific time comparison between the PSS, PS Cup 2, RE-71R, and R-S3 v2 on the stock wheels on the same track on the same weekend in a couple of days. In two weeks I will be running the PS Cup 2, ContiForceContact, NT01 and Trofeo R on the 6GR wheels. At the moment, the RE-71R will surprise you. ;)

I have heard the same about the RE-71Rs from some of the local track guys. They will be my next set for sure, some guys are running faster on those compared to NT01s

I went from RE-11s to RE-71Rs and the difference was mind blowing.

How are the RE-71Rs on wet roads (not track). I only use my car for track but do need to drive 2-3 hrs to the track in the wet NW.

I am on RE11s now but liked Rivals better on my S197. When I bought the RE11s, the 71Rs werent out yet in my size.
