My insurance literally doubled when I moved from Ohio to Utah. The rates here are absurd. I mean I know the drivers are bad, but my area must have a huge pool of uninsured or unlicensed drivers flying around. The no fault crap also doesn't help, I'm sure.

Crazy. I pay 1400 for home owner insurance. But, we did have like 19 tornadoes last year. Hiked my bill from 1100 to 1400 at renewel. Blah

I’m slowest person on this forum hands down
Actually I believe I'm the slowest. I drive in snow/wet mode year 'round. I also leave my blinker on.

JK, I don't do any of that 🙃

😆 And said like that is something to be proud of....
Well considering his trust fund is probably paying for it, sure it's affordable lol. Not a ton of ways for the average 17 year old to afford those kinds of monthly expenditures.

Interesting. Consensus roasts this kid for totalling his car and wanting to buy a new one. Yet, in another thread a father buys his 15 year old a new mustang and all kinds of support in favor of the purchase. Crazy...
You must be talking about a different thread than the one I read. The one I read was filled with warnings and disapproval. In the thread I read it was also an ecoboost. Then the poster said they're going to put restrictions and possibly even use mykey to limit engine speed while monitoring usage. I have a feeling that kid wouldn't be getting a second right after totaling the first. But, you know, we must have clearly read two different threads...

Is $400 a month 0 chance? LOL
Son-of-a-B kid, that's nothing to be proud of!
My car note and insurance together don't come to that much... And my driving record is far from perfect.

I’m a turtle guys. Lol I don’t have a single citation or wreck on my record. I’m slowest person on this forum hands down. I often do 65 in 65 and hold strong while people pass me on left going triple digits. I have no shame
Location, location, location. Insurance is all about risk. I recently went back to Erie Insurance for Home and Auto. Saved me a ton of money over USAA (And no other company would touch their rates). Thing is - I had Erie for years. Then my agent told me straight up, once my son was licensed, they wouldn't insure him, I'd have to move to another carrier.

Insurance is all about risk. Erie only insures in 11 states.

With USAA in Virginia:

2019 Mustang GT - full coverage $500 deductible, free roadside
2017 EB Convertible - same as above
1995 Bronco Comp and liability
2012 F150 4x4 same coverage as Mustangs

Me, my wife and 22 year old son. No tickets, no accidents. $1900 every 6 months.

Went to Erie, lower deductible ($250) now have FULL Coverage on the Bronco (it's a mint condition 1995 - zero rust, new drive train, nice paint and body, redone interior etc) with stated value of $9500....

$2200 a YEAR. Erie does 1 year policies, not 6 month.

The replies to this post are hilarious... My insurance rates don’t concern anyone, and neither does my age, point is

These replies, as well as others, are useless. I asked for options for the new car, not how much my insurance would be. I’m paying for the car, insurance, and am well aware how much it costs lmao.
All right nobody can talk you out of a new mustang (and maybe they shouldn't) but I would suggest you sign up for HPDE. This way you can get your ya ya's out on a track with an instructor. I've been driving since 1966 (had a new 67 GTO at 17) and that's what I plan on doing. Good luck and stay alive.

He could put that 400 a month towards one of those whole life insurance plans to cover future (soon) funeral expenses. :)

My 18 year old friend has went through an m5, a scat pack, and just picked up his 2021 sinamon stick hellcat, $89K sticker. Just because someone has a nicer car than you at a younger age doesn’t mean they don’t need it :)
Good for your 18 year old friend. I have a 3 cars, a home, and a fat retirement portfolio and will retire by 40.

YOU still totaled a 460hp car at 17. Shown you can't handle it lol.

I missed your first post, so apologies if things are not like they sound, but I think you should go for the GT 500 this time: https://www.amazon.com/vdp/13d3805de03d461f9312626fb1fad121?ref=dp_vse_rvc_0
Even before I clicked I knew what a link to Amazon was gonna show. :D

Reading of a Hellcat reminds me of the recent video from I think Texas where it flipped a fricking truck over.

You guys are piling on him, but without reading all the comments, there appears to be a theme of OP might needing a tad of driving experience.

@OP, I'm 28 yo and just got my Bullitt last year at 27, with 480hp. But before that, I had a stick shift Escort with 110hp at 18, then Cobalt with 148hp at 23, then Accord Sport with 252 at 26 and then knowing I was hungry for more power and could handle it, I graduated up to 480hp at 27, responsibly.
I can't imagine owning 4x the engine power at 17 than I had.

I'm thinking what people are implying here is to gain a bit of experience, learn to handle RWDs and then make the leap.

I feel that. I used to live in Georgia while in grad school. Liability for 2 beaters was essentially identical price tag there compared to a full coverage on a Bullitt and F150 here in Ohio. Also made a difference going from 24yo in GA grad school to 25yo in OH fully employed.

I know that they probably mentioned or compared, but HO is usually a 1yr policy and lot of car insurance policies are for 6mo. Those figures are yearly I assume?

I think I got like $1,100 HO and $1,200/year for 2 car with full coverage and low deductibles...
