Tis a sad day that I wish was an April fools joke.

I’m cruising down a city street and an elderly lady pulls out of a parking lot, darts across 4 lanes in order to try and get to the other side of the street. Unfortunately, there was no avoiding her and I end up T-boning her car.

Steering wheel, driver footwell, and pillar airbags deployed along with damaged seen here.

i was going ~25mph when I collided with her but fortunately we are both physically okay. She claimed fault at the scene and on the police report so hopefully I don’t have to deal with any BS insurance issues.

Posting this b/c wanted some opinions re: if it’s possibly totaled vs definitely totaled. Also, b/c my soul is crushed and need to vent

2020 GT base 301a package with digital cluster and 8” infotainment screen. 15k miles. This happened in south Texas.

UPDATE:
The damage repair costs did end up being around $27k. In Texas, insurance companies can decide to repair a vehicle up until the repair costs exceed 100% ACV of the vehicle; however, this isn't a hard fast rule and it's ultimately up to the insurer to decide if a vehicle is total loss (with most companies deeming total loss if repair costs are > 70-75% ACV).

Given that there were quite a few replacement parts on backorder, I ultimately elected to just push for it to be totaled of which my adjuster was agreeable to.

Doesn’t look like a total - but hard to say from pics and not seeing what’s under everything.

In most states, to total the vehicle the ACV has to be at least or exceed 75-77% of the vehicle’s current value (which would be Black or Red book values that lenders and salvage facilities use).

If your bags deployed, I would consider it totaled.
From what I was reading, airbags deploying don’t always mean total loss.

What are some things under that would point you towards a total loss? There’s definitely some bending of the driver fender (driver door doesn’t open all the way) but I’m not sure if there’s any frame damage.

I reckon it’ll be close to totaled.

that’s what I’m thinking as well unfortunately. It will probably come down to some of the nuances that are seen in person

By the time they price up panels, lights (my old X6 had $2500 headlights!), airbags and maybe frame check it’ll be pushing it

Damn. Sorry this happened. Stay positive.... Things have a way of working out, even when it seems all is lost.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear. But honestly I would want it to be totaled at that point. There’s a good amount of damage and who knows what issues you could have later down the road from the accident. Sometimes cars just aren’t the same after an accident. Sometimes they are it’s a gamble at that point I feel. With how new it is I’d want them to replace it with a new one.

Yes, it sucks, big time. But be grateful that you’re OK and the other driver accepted fault. The car will either be fixed or replaced. If it is a total I do like the idea of a Mach 1. Or a GT500. :)

Did you mean damages have to be a certain % of ACV?
The ACV is the vehicle's current value (actual cash value).
IIRC they may also consider what they will get back on salvage auction.
