Either one will be boosted with a VMP 3.0 or Whipple 3.0 unit. Which has the most potential? I know the Boss more than likely has better internals vs the 2018. I’m looking for around 850 rwhp eventually.. this will be a manual car too. E85 is readily available.. Thank you

This will be a weekend cruiser , just want reliability, I’ll also have Wengard as a tuner. Thanks

Most potential? The 2018 has independent rear suspension which makes a big difference in handling and the ability to put the power down. 850 HP on a solid rear axle car can get sketchy really quick.

I had a 2020 GT with PP1, magnaride and active exhaust. I sold it and now have a 13 Boss 302.
The 2020 was a nice car, but I have to admit I do like the rawness and handling of the Boss better.
I am happy with the stock power for the streets, but one of the main advantages of the Boss is the tighter gearing in the MT82, which actually makes it faster than the 2020.
That said with 800+ hp I think the taller gearing of the 2020 would have be better.

Both vehicles had the 3.73 Torsen diff.

Looking for reliability but also looking to mod the shit out of it...

Both are strong vehicles but with all those modifications you plan on doing I don't think either will be all that reliable in the end.

Aren't those cars in 2 completely different price categories? Odd cars to cross shop.

I looked at the Boss 302 briefly before buying my Mach 1 and they were at least mid $40k's. 2018 premium GT's can be had for sub $30k all day.

If you just want a weekend cruiser then get the GT. The Boss was meant to be driven hard on the track and you will be doing Ford engineers a disservice by not tracking it.

If you're going to mod it, '18 all the way. Cheaper and easier to obtain and better for boost.

Stock, I'd buy the Boss and enjoy it knowing it was the best of the S197s and that it would retain value well if left as Ford intended.

The Gen 3 Coyote is really good for making extra HP. I would also say the same about the Gen 2 (2015-2017 cars).

The S197 Boss is so good right off the shelf, I personally wouldn’t want to boost it. If you care about value retention, I would leave it stock.

I was hopeful that Ford would use a legacy nameplate like Boss, GT500, GT350, Cobra, etc for the next high HP S650, but it sure seems that Ford is moving on from legacy nameplates. Dark Horse is a good example. They easily could’ve use the Boss name and chose not to. So, I think cars with those legacy nameplates will have a fairly high value floor, especially the ones that are left stock.

If you don’t care about that stuff, either car is a great choice and I’ve seen some cool videos of boosted S197 Boss cars. If 850 whp is your goal, it’s easier to get there with the Gen 3 coyote and Wengard is highly regarded here in the S550 universe.

Are they that much now? Fuck. I thought mid 30's was too much for them.

While that may be true, the 2018+ PP2 was like 8 seconds faster than a Boss 302 around the C&D Lightning lap

Were they all tested on the same day under the same conditions. There are a lot of variables that would make a huge difference. My 2020 Gt came with Michelin PS4's, which were night and day better than the 2022 Perilli P-Zero's
