They say a GT350 Mustang is $30,000-$40,000?

Those are 2016 tech pack cars... if you were in the market in 2016/2017 you would have known that dealers were doing under MSRP deals on these examples all day long while the disgruntled 2016 tech pack guys googled what their cars had AFTER they signed the dotted line and then tried to take Ford to court. :headbang::headbang:

Ford made a mistake in 2015 trying to price/option the cars more pragmatically and towards "buyers tastes" (like M4s or GT3RSs) rather than the Shelby continuations that they will always practically be ... they quickly rectified that making all the 'track' goodies standard the year after.

I was helping a friend look at 350s and he kept on bringing up 2016s despite a 2017+ like I was recommending because "I can't find a 2017 in my budget"... :) go figure...

I have seen several '16 Tech cars around me for in the 30's. One of my buddy's was considering getting a used 350 and he DIDN'T want a Tech Pack for obvious reasons being in motor sports. He did find a Track pack car in the high 30's but didn't like the color.
The 2016 Track pack cars are the anomaly... I remember looking hard and long for a leftover 'track pack' but each time was greeted with a markup.

Yeah no way I would pay over high $30K range for a 16 tech pack

I will say this. I was looking at 350's late last year in November I found a 17 with under 6K miles for $42K. It looked pristine except it needed two new tires. But had catch cans, and was very well maintained. It was early November and it had been on the market for awhile. Seller told me he would take $41K take it or leave it. It was the wrong color (Yellow) so I hesitated a few days and by the time I contacted him again it sold. But yeah. $41K for a low mileage 2017 with clean title, no accidents, and very good condition. That was 4 months ago.

A used Track Pack car, listed for a price and then WITH a mark up on top of that which wasn't specified on the list price? That sounds like bait and switch.

A car is only what someone will pay for it. And the marginal buyer sets the new lower bar for every transaction after that. Once someone pays say $45k for an '18 (non-R) with less than 3000 miles on it, that's the new high bar and successive bid goes below that. Anyone trying to sell a '17 gets a fresh kick in the teeth. Subject to local market distortions.

I don't think we are at the "$30K" GT350 just yet. A Tech Pack traded in at $47K and a 7K mile '16 R sold slightly below MSRP, just two years ago. BL, it's up to supply versus demand.

I recently picked up GR378 for way less than I paid for GR227. Same car, fewer miles, better shape and purchased from the same town with two years between purchases. I have no idea how much the original owner of GR378 paid new, be they clearly didn't care about recouping that cash when sold. Some folks don't care, they just want something different/newer. Their loss...my gain and of course, the dealer made a profit. So let the trading begin. May your timing be perfect and cash be overflowing so you, too, can get that GT350 for whatever it's worth to you.

Local(ish) dealer has a 2018 w/4k miles listed for nearly $53k, I started the offer at $50k OTD (it's been on the lot for over 6 months) and they basically told me to fk off.

Try to trade in a very low mileage 19+ model and you will be lucky to see 48k, the discounts offered to move last years inventory put a knife into used values imo. I am not surprised to see used older models in the 30s to low 40s.

Nice find. But the first one has been through an accident and is salvage title, and multiple owners. The second one has a lemon law on the title, so most likely Ford buyback due to engine issue...but was most likely fixed.

42k
26k miles
2 owners
Clean Carfax

Happy?

The market is coming down on these. There's a clean title 2016 for 29k
There are at least ten, private party rigs for under 43k asking. Sale price on those will be much closer to 40k or less

When I was looking at used GT350s last year, there were several that popped up in a nation-wide search that were $5-6K lower than others with similar features and miles. One of them was one of my preferred colors, so I contacted the dealer only to learn it was an engine-replacement Ford Buy Back. I inquired about a couple of the other low cost options and they were all Buy Back or Lemon Law cars. I decided I did not want a Buy Back, so I held out for a low mileage, single-owner 2018 with all of the original paperwork. I felt it was worth the extra cost to have a clean title and know the full history of the car from one owner.

As a past owner of a 2000 cobra R; I purchased it five years into its life in 2005 ! Depreciation sped to a stop ! As history repeats itself a five year old GT350 purchased right will not move downwards much ! Buy a wonderful 16” and own it for free (or close to) for the next multiple years and relish the ride ! Remember if you can afford it! It’s is not what you paid for it !! it’s what it’s worth when you’re Ready to move on! I own a 16 “ R” and I will see very light depreciation! Thanks for considering my advice! ( 30 years in the car biz on my 25th Mustang) !

P.S. if anyone wants to enlarge this “ cost Vs depreciation “ discussion! I would be willing to list all 25 Mustangs and let know which ones I lost money on and which ones I either made or lost no money on ! We all have our stories and I would love to hear your experiences as well ! It might give some growth on their future purchases!
