Well, back on Black Friday I bought the chariot a MBRP cat back and because I'm a cheapskate it's been sitting in the garage waiting for my insurance renewal, so I don't have to pay for a mid-term alteration to policy.
Anyway, the great moment is upon us and it's time for renewal, so I get some quotes with the cat-back declared and just for interest, some with car still stock.
Obviously everyone's insurance parameters are different, so what you end up paying varies, but for information I'm a million years old with a max NCB and live in pretty good post code from a crime point of view.
So, the best the Meerkats could manage on the stock car fully comp was £263 (which is very good). Then I tried it with the exhaust, nothing else different and the best result was £436. That's a massive £173 difference. So on that basis, if I keep the car for 5 years the pipe will have cost me it's purchase price and an additional £865 to insure it, which is more than it cost me to buy the thing in the first place. I'm gonna do it anyway, but that seems like a hell of a lot for just some noise.
I did ring round a few specialists and most of them were worse than the Meerkats and in the end the absolute best I could manage was £395. Bloody hell....

Surprised it went up by that much!
Started with Aviva when I first got the exhaust, they didn't charge any extra for it and Direct Line were the same.

Don’t forget the installation cost ;)

I renewed in December and will be making the call this week to add mine, got my fingers crossed for just an admin fee of £20-30, but we’ll see.

Maybe that’s a better tactic? Renew with no exhaust, then add on afterwards?

A plan Thatcham - (ensure it is Thatcham branch) specialise in "modified and powerful cars"

despite a few cosmetic mods and a cat-back exhaust - easily the cheapest quote I could find -

beat everything on Meerkat and the Opera singer -

and for sure - Ford Direct Insurance (what a silly number they quoted!)

but, you are right - all parameters for each of us are different , however A Plan (thatcham) are worth a try I suggest!

Wait a minute -- you guys in the UK have to get different insurance if you put a catback on your car? Duhfuq is that nonsense? Y'all need to run for office and lighten up that government.

Added my Borla and some go faster stripes on the same-day, I pressed the update button and walked away from the laptop expecting to return to see a nightmare. Added price was ZERO. Fack knows what will happen in June when the renewal lands, but right now it's all good. Quotemehappy.com

Oh and another thing.... Mine had her first service on Thursday and Ford didn't even notice the exhaust had been changed.

Nothing to do with the government - Insurance companies are private companies and it is a risk based system. Modified vehicles are more likely to claim or require a claim hence the loading.

Well I was with A-Plan this last year. I've just told them about the zorst and they said they'd get back to me next week with some numbers. Despite what peeps are saying here, I'm not overly optomistic. We shall see...
In the meantime the best I've had so far (£395) is from Brentacre. When I told a bloke at Keith Michaels about the Brentacre quote, he said. "take it, it's the best your going to get."
Gumphh!...
