Mind meld of the '66 & '68 fast backs.

1970 fastback for one of them. Here's a photo of a car just like my original 1970 Mach 1 above Ford's website image of my current S550, at the same scale.

'64 at the front (the LED marker lights), '70 at the back (the strongest resemblance to me, can be seen standing about 2 feet from the front wheel, looking back toward the spoiler).

When you look at the evolution, the s550 100% looks like it could of evolved right after the sn95 years. Forgo the s197 years and it'd be a flawless transition

agreed x1965 ;) I think they look closer to the sn95 and new edges than I do the originals. And new edge particularly the svt cobra 01/03/04 are my favorite mustang outside of the 68 fastback The s197s matched up more so with the 69 70 look imo.

The S550 fastback shape looks very similar to the '65 fastback - rounded roof with straight rear half sloping at a constant angle toward the short trunk lid. The SN95 fastback isn't long enough compared to the S550. And the SN95 doesn't even really meet the definition of a fastback with a straight slope toward the back - the slope stops at the back edge of the rear tire. Not that it doesn't look good, though.

I personally think the s550 was a step away from traditional 65-70 fast backs (like the s197) to a more European grand touring coupe look. It more resembles a modern Jaguar or Aston Martin with a touch of American muscle flair added in imo. Definitely a step up in the handling department which led directly to the gt350 program.

I can see it in the 1984 and 2015 models of Austin Martins.
