- I remember solid lifter cams and having to adjust valve lash more often than stopping for gas
- Drum brakes on all 4 wheels
- Leaded premium
- Setting the points on a dual point distributor, a special kind of hell
- Trying different springs and vacuum advance units in a distributor to get the right advance curve

That time in your life before you've had to adjust them when you believed that Webers were the ultimate in carburation for anything ever made. And then the slow, smoldering hatred that follows once you've discovered the truth. It's right up there with finding out about Santa Clause.

I remember when I invented the screw-top oil bottle.

I used to collect beer cans (remember that?) and the cone tops were always the ones that were hard to get. Back in the day you needed either a church-key or a fancy spout to open an oil can. Well, I had thought why not put oil in a cone top can? Then it would be super easy to unscrew the cap and pour out the oil.

About a year or so later the bottles I had 'invented' hit the stores.

At least I knew they were BAD before hand. Try adjusting 3x2 setup.......the "Cool factor" disappeared after trying to get those things running right.

I sometimes miss QJets. I got them for free (everyone went to Holley / Carter / Edelbrock) because they couldn't understand why a QJet pulled from a 455 Pontiac Wagon wouldn't run right on their small block Chevy...........when put together right, the sound of secondaries opening was literally music.......

We used to call them rottenchester quadrashit. But in theory they were a good idea, small primaries to give good off idle response and great drivability, and very large secondaries for when you mash the throttle. Nothing sounds as good as properly tuned q jet when you roll into the secondaries.

That's exactly what broke the illusion for me too, trying to sync a 2X2 setup.

I did rebuild a quadrajunk once, never did figure out where all those spare parts went. In theory it was a great carb but nobody knew anything about it, myself included. And we couldn't just Google it back then.

I learned the hard way........I was poor and QJets were free. Nothing touches the sound of a QJet when the secondaries opened........

Who remembers how to set the buttons for radio stations?

Quite well. In a couple of cases the radios used vacuum tubes instead of what's screwed to the case under the tuning knob.

Also, vacuum-operated windshield wipers
2-speed automatic transmissions

I had a Mallory dual point distributor, so it wasn't too bad to tinker with, except getting lit up from my Mallory hi voltage coil...

The biggest controversy back in 2004 was Janet Jackson’s nipple slip at the Super Bowl. Those were the days.
