Hi All,

New FN Mustang GT manual convert here, nearly got one in 2018 & finally got one & love it.

I would like a bit more go, but keep it NA.

Bang for buck the tickford 400kw tune almosts seems a no brainer.

Thing is you cant find any reviews, Dyno runs, even a simple before and after comparison, but nothing on this tune?

Being such a popular car, I thought there would be heaps of info on it, but nothing!

Can anyone help shed any light on this?

Thanks,
Bruce.

Was total BS. They removed it from their website and advertising. Go to a specialist Mustang tuner in Sydney. In Melbourne it’s Mustang Motorsport or Rob Herrod plus a couple of lesser knows.

Even 10% is a lot of hp gains in a NA car, I would have thought a tune taking it from 340KW to about 360KW would be pretty reasonable. 10% would be 375KW (about 500hp), 15 would be about 390KW. 500hp is plenty, though I suppose it is lugging a lot of lard.

If that 10% is real, I might do it for shits and giggles.

Any thoughts on the best tune for a manual?

They are still claiming 400kw from above link.(see below)

Why still mention 400kw on your webpage when even 15% on 339 is 389kw(at the flywheel), not 400!

What other options do we have for a CAI & tune, any reccomendations.
Remote would be good as Im 400km from most capital citys & time poor as well.
Cheers.

DESCRIPTION & INCLUSIONS
Tickford sets a new performance benchmark in the latest Mustang by delivering a new tune that delivers a performance gain of between 10%-15% to the naturally aspirated V8 engine featuring the 6-speed manual gearbox, with slightly less achieved for those vehicles with an auto box. This boost in power provides the most genuine track-orientated power curve to date, as the Tickford tune focuses on enhancing the driveability of the Mustang with a smoother application of power with excellent mid-range performance and peak torque, based on the use of 98-RON fuel.
  • Power increase between 10-15%
  • increased power delivery from low and mid rev range
  • Increased torque spread, from low to high rpm
  • Power delivery can be held longer in every gear
  • Can be driven aggressively with access to increased power in a broader rev range
  • Improved/direct transmission response to throttle demand
  • Enhanced driveability and increased power without the expense of supercharging

The performance upgrade can also be enjoyed in the 10-speed automatic where the same enhanced driveability is experienced, though with a greater feeling of throttle response and stronger connection with the 10-speed box making it the ultimate touring GT car.

“Following numerous weeks spent on the dyno, the Tickford engineering team sought to further unleash the raw power, and drawing on our years of experience in both road cars and race cars, our enhancements have seen an increase in power from the standard 339kw to 400kw, and torque increases from 556Nm to 632Nm, while also ensuring a smoother power delivery.”

400kW ECU TUNE POWER PACK INCLUSIONS:
  • Tickford naturally aspirated ECU recalibration
  • ROUSH Cold Air Intake
  • Tickford individual build number
  • Tickford Enhanced badge

*The Tickford 400 Power Pack ECU tune was achieved on an MY18 Mustang featuring a 6-speed manual in controlled conditions. The 10-speed automatic typically reduces the maximum power output due to restrictions in the engine safety management.

Sent this to the fellas in perth 1.5 weeks ago after having an awkward talk on the phone.

Guess what, no reply!!!!

Hi Brett/Mitch,

Thanks for your time on the phone today.

Looking at the 400kw 98 octane FN Mustang Manual tune.

Wondering what approx real rolling Dyno numbers you are achieving with this Tune.

Harrop have done a Hub dyno & got 315Kw for the std FN manual(339@ engine).

My conservative estimate on a wheel dyno for a std FN manual would be -35kw for wheel losses so around 280rwKw(375rwhp) or around 17.5% less than 339kw @ the wheels, which seems to add up.

My questions

1.The tune says it will achieve 400kw(at the engine), or an increase of 60kw over stock.

Could we assume approx 330kw(442hp) at the rears on a wheel dyno(17.5% loss) with this tune & roush intake?

Would be i be dreaming & be better to chase long tubes & CAI?

2.What does the tune do to drivability, especially down low in the rev range around town.

3.What does it do to fuel economy at say 100-110km hr cruising on the highway?

HI Peter. I will be using Profile Autosport in a few weeks now. It was going in on Tuesday this week but postponed until I have a couple of hotdog type resonators fitted. Profile think it best to be cautious and wait until they are on. I was told that there are no recommended mustang tuners on Gold coast.

the resonators are just for sound, not tune?

I have just recently had long tube headers put on and the new exhaust sound is not to my liking. A bit too loud and very raspy/tinny. A couple of Vibrant 18 inch 4 inch diameter resonators are to be fitted rear of the Borla Switchfire to hopefully remedy that. Best to get them fitted before the tune so that any sound changes to the system can be sorted during the tune.

Yeah I was kinda concerned about having headers put in because I love the sound I already have with the mishimoto h pipe. But my performance guys thought headers were the first thing you'd do to get the most out of a tune. We used to call them extractors when I was a teen.

Same. I do understand that there is a technical difference but nether the less I have conceded to the US term. I have Australian Pacemaker and even they call their product headers.

Still amazes me that theres no feedback from anyone about the Tickford tune good or bad, its as if anyone whoever got it, signed a non disclosure statement to never say anything about it??
Surely you can get in strife for your personal opinion on something?
Anyone?

Dont really want to go down the header/extracor road.

I'd probably do the Ford Performance GT Performance pack. Claims to offer an extra 20 horsepower and 24 lb-ft of torque over the standard figures, while also being validated by Ford themselves and ADR compliant. If you have an automatic, the tune also covers a new transmission program as well.

Expensive, although you do get the big Mach 1 / GT-350 cold air intake as well.
