I am looking at adding a set of long tube headers and mid pipes to my 2018 GT. I currently have a lside pipes on the car and I want to keep them, it doesn't look like that is going to be a big issue. One thing though, one set is a used set of Corsa's and the are about an hour and 20 minutes away from where I live. The guy wants to work a deal and install them for me as well, he works on cars in his garage at his house and I have confidence in his ability to do the job based on meeting and talking to him. I saw some of the cars he has and has worked on and think he can do the job with little to no issues. That being said, we will be removing the cats and I know it will throw codes for that, but will I be able to get home without having the car tuned or will I be in trouble? I don't want to be 70 miles away and go into limp mode or worse on the ride home.

Hey Jason,

You will be just fine on the ride home, but I would get it tuned as soon as possible. You will not go into limp mode or anything like that, you will throw a CEL if it is catless or not, because it will burn rich until it is tuned properly. Your gas mileage might drop a bit as well, due to it burning rich. If you have any inquiries on tuning options or anything like that, let me know and I can get you set up!

It won’t burn “rich”. One of the nice things about closed loop fueling with active bank separate wideband O2’s. STFT’s will continue to target commanded lambda……. This is just tuner greed telling people you need to tune for almost everything like it was 1996 all over again……..

Mainly requires a change to the transport delay functions since the sensors have moved but you can drive without issues, save for maybe a CEL. That being said I wouldn’t be trying to race anyone until properly tuned as likely already mentioned.

Tuning certainly takes the most advantage of long tubes. Otherwise you just spent money on a lot of noise and a car that will run not quite as good.

As others have stated you can drive without the tune but you won't get the most gains out of long tubes that you can with the proper tune.

I could help get you dialed in with a Lund tune. Not only will they tune for the added flow of the headers they will adjust throttle response, red line along with shift points if it is auto.
