I went to Houston Raceway Park Friday night for open track night. It's a 1/4 mile track that NHRA runs on every spring, so a real deal track. It was empty so I did 4 hot laps back to back. My runs were from 11.8xx to my fastest of 11.112 at 126.85 mph. I had a slightly higher trap speed of 127.54 on one run but slower 1/4 mile time.

DA was not good, 2700+ feet and it was still over 90 degrees when I did my first run around 7pm. Car did now want to hook up and on 3 of the 4 runs, the car bogged down between 1st and 2nd shift. The one run it did not was my second run at 11.112.

In the 2020 base car my best time was a 10.82 at 130.30 mph. DA was -249 (edited from 139 mph and -500 DA) so the air was perfect. Temps were in the high 60's so great there. I also removed the wickers, Gurney flap, and put the rain tray in.

Friday I had the wickers on, rear wing in the aggressive setting, and rain tray out. I read somewhere the rain tray in cause less drag because the air is going over the car not through the engine compartment.

They shut down for the year in 2 weeks. Hoping we get a cold front in before then and the DA and temps drop. My next runs the car will be as slippery.

Were you on the stock tires? It’s pretty amazing what bone stock cars will do now.

Yes. 100% bone stock down to recommended street tire pressure.

Ford recommend the rain tray be removed specifically because it’s better aero with it out… FWIW… I’m no aerodynamicist.

So wickers off and rain try in for the next run. Looking at the weather and temps, this Friday should be much better DA.

Thanks for the input.

Was your 2020 stock? If so that is the fastest stock mph I have seen. At that mph you should have been much faster than 10.82. My best stock was 10:78 at 127, JLT and R888Rs got me a 10:63 at 128. I only have 5 passes total though, now that it is cooling down I'm hoping to get back out.

Yes. Bone stock except for lowering the tire pressure some. I’ll look for a pic of the time slip. The car never really got out of the hole but damn it pulled the entire way down the track.

I think this pic might be the run I’m referring to.

Yep, good catch. Getting old sucks. 130.30 mph. 10.82 was correct. DA was -249 not -500. That is my original post and obliviously the pic of me smoking the tires is not from that night. Car number is not right.
