It seems they're building upon the previous test with just the Z and Mach 1 (as they re-use the performance test data), but given the extra contenders and new content, I figured it was worth a new thread. They also touch on how/why the Mach 1 might have been slower than previous ones they've tested, but I don't think the explanation is probably sufficient on it's own... I doubt 91 octane robs you of THAT much power vs 93.

... And I still wish they had tested the non-handling-pack Mach 1.

I find the data invalid on the Mach1, I'm sorry. Car and Driver ran 0-60 in 4.1 with a PP2 car with the worse ratios of the MT82D4. It also did 0-100 in 9.4 seconds and the 1320 in 12.5@114mph. Something was amiss with the Mach...has to be.

I noticed that they optioned the Mach 1 with the rear seat delete and then give it a 0 under the rear seat category, lol. Probably wanted the scores to be more tightly packed, I guess. I haven't sat in an M240i but i've heard backseat room is pretty similar to the Mustang now?

I'm surprised C&D liked the Mach 1 the most though, considering how much praise I've seen them give the Supra.

The M240i actually has better rear seating than the Mustang. I would consider the M240i if they offered a manual.

Yikes, 13.0 @ 108 mph in the 1/4 mile. $61k to barely outrun a V6 6th gen Camaro or 2002 Camaro SS. Good grief, I hope something was wrong with the Mach 1 because that time and trap speed doesn't cut it for 2022.

See the first reply as well as the discussion in the other Z vs Mach 1 thread. Something was definitely wrong with that Mach 1 (or the driver, or both). Those numbers aren't quite right.

Having driven an M240i it’s an absolute hoot to drive. Very quick, handles well, and I don’t think it is as uncomfortable as they make it out to be. Oh, and in today’s land of $5.00+ gas, it will get or exceed the advertised 32 MPG highway and over 20 city. Heck, my wife’s X3 M40i is rated at 26 MPG highway and gets 28+ all day long and 20+in the city

With that said, the Mach 1 would be the car I’d want to own out of the four. Styling and performance along with that amazing V-8 sound. 10/10 in the coolness factor.

Nice article/comparison.

The M240i would be the choice for me if it were available with a manual transmission. The Z keeps getting mixed reviews; I wonder what the real-world experiences will reveal once enough people own those cars.

The Z is also the cheapest of all the options.

For the difference you can get better rubber and an inline tool to add a few PSI and still be the cheapest.
The problem is the Z needs upgrades, and the Mach 1 is over upgraded. It almost certainly doesn't need the handling pack to be the faster, more fun car.

The car that is going to be a hoot and will be available in a manual is the upcoming BMW M2. If they come near the same pricing of the out going M2 it will be in the $60K range before ADM's hit. It will have the newer S58 engine slightly detuned to 450hp but will be lighter than the M4.

They get what Ford sends them, and it doesn't really make sense to give a car missing rear seats anything but a zero lol.

True, but consider how many people actually opt for the seat delete when ordering (not many) and that scoring is kind of weird. Not even a mention of it from them.

Then again, their Mach 1 test numbers seem way off so I suppose it's not really the most accurate thing to begin with here.

I didn't buy an Eco because I can't afford a GT. I bought it because I couldn't afford an M2. My car is much more M2 ClubSport than GT wannabe.

You're right, though, that new one will be a really cool car.

Are you (whoever originally wrote it) driving a stake bed truck with a split axle? Quit making this more difficult than it needs to be.
