Hey all,

There is a large group of S550 GT owners here in Colombia (Southamerica) wanting to supercharge their Coyotes.

Want to know your opinions about using any of the most popular setups available (Roush, Whipple) considering that best fuel available at gas stations is 87(R+M) octane. Most frequent routes are at high altitude cities (8200ft):

  • Do you recommend the mix of additives or racing fuels even at such altitudes?
  • For a street use (eventually on track), do you recommend supercharging?
  • Is there any recognized engine mapper willing to modify these calibrations?
  • Any experiences from the supercharged GT's running in Colorado (or any other region) at high altitudes?

Thanks

do you mean the R+M/2 method similar to how the states do it?

PM for more info.
For your application I would think the best answer would come from the Ford OEM programmer who is familiar with the high altitude mappings that Ford already spent $$$ developing. He builds the dynamic learning tunes for Whipple with all the OEM failsafes integrated (he wrote the code base).
Another possibility might be Ken Bjonnes.
There are options on late closing of the intake valves to effectively decrease compression ratio, but these require more custom tuning.
Comfortable w swapping pistons?
Fastest solution might be ordering a lower compression Ford Aluminator SC and just swapping the motor and use the stock ecu and engine harness.

Choose the ecu tuner first, then go with their FI platform they recommend.

I'm only at 4500 ft elev and the highest octane available to me is 91 octane. The knock sensors pretty much always register + knock at WOT, I wouldn't think the 11:1 CR of these engines would be very happy with 87 octane and boost, heck I don't think 91 is really good enough even with my conservative tune.

Run a small meth injection kit.

Unless you can get octane boosters to mix in, or run meth injection, I wouldn't.

You have cheap LNG/CNG access?
CNG is 120-130 octane and might be way cheaper than 82-87.
Cost will be up front $10k+ conversion.

Aquamist or something else for meth/water injection?

Toulene and/or Xylene (111-117) by the drum or gallon might be worth looking into to mix your own higher octane fuel, be sure to add lubricant or maybe lucas fuel stabilizer with that.

Cost of Torco or octanium over there per 32oz?
Add 32oz per 10gal of 82oct might get you to 90-93octane.

you would need an octane booster or meth injection at a minimum to make it worth it
