I was wondering if anyone made a custom bigger tube to the air box with less of a bend. I wish I could just put the JLT tube and modify my air box to fit the bigger mouth into it. I feel hat would be the only Real intake update , other than a bigger ram air mouth leading into the air box.
Disclosure: I don't believe in all these open air box cone "cai" since the heat soak and elemental damage is increased and actual HP /TQ decreased.
I will be getting a tune on the car and just want to figure out a way to optimize the intake without getting a pointless "pretty" cone filter.

*I also see corsa has a closed airbox cai but I find it pointless to spend $500 on a factory airbox replacment.

The stock tubing / airbox system may look "restrictive" but it's a very good unit that keeps IATs low even on the hottest days while offering the best filtration media. It is not a bottle neck and is good for a 5.0L (share's the same airbox as us). Even better since we're speed density there is no bottle neck in the tubing due to a MAF. Looking at pictures of those aftermarket plexiglass lids warping due to heat shows that there was way more engineering and thought put into the OE airbox. Spend your effort/time/money elsewhere such as a Reische 170* T-stat. Something that actually keeps engine temps down. This allows your engine to run more timing with less risk of knock = more power. Be sure to tell your tuner to adjust your fans for the 170* T-stat or it won't do any good.

I opened up my stock grill by removing the furthest three sections of honeycomb at the airbox intake, also I'm running the AEM dry drop in filter.
My temps with normal driving stay 10-15 degrees above ambient.
If I'm on the throttle, such as going up a long hill or just having a heavy foot the temp get about 6-10 above ambient.
Happy with my inexpensive mod.

ive monitored IAT's with the stock setup, and my completely open setup. in some cases, my open intake actually has less temp than the stock one. BUT...I have a GT grill, and its all open...meaning the air is being pushed pretty hard though the opening behind the grill. my filter is located directly behind that, and gets blasted with cool air. theres actually a dirty spot on the filter where all the air is hitting it. my IAT's while moving are normally only 5 to 14 deg above ambient. ive seen the stock setup 20+ while driving. probably because the whole air box and tube become heat soaked. and yeah, sure while in bumper to bumper or a lot of stop and go, the IAT's on my open setup are 20-40deg over ambient....but the stock setup isn't really any better. ive monitored IAT's a ton. both on my car, and on all the v6 rentals ive had for work. all that being said, my intake would be hot as hell if I didn't have the GT grill, with the mesh removed. if your running a stock grill, a closed airbox like the stock one is probably your best bet.

the bigges restriction on the stock intake Is the tiny mouth where it feeds from. but.....the GT uses the same mouth. if they c an make 430hp on that, it couldn't be too bad.

I know having the open GT grill made a good difference in IAT's having the ram air piece hooked up to the stock box, or aftermarket box would works really well

Hey, could you make me a carbon fiber intake pipe that leads to the box?

I could......but it would probably cost about the same as a complete system :p let me think about it. might be able to sell a few, if that's the case, might be worth making

yeah, may be a small market but i may be wrong, maybe some people are with me and want to keep their factory air box and want some Carbon Fiber porn under the hood that is functional.
i know it be shorter than the one you made previous since yours has an added bend downwards for a more cold air type.

So what would you like the minimum group buy to be, to push you into production

Id like to see 4 or 5 guys to make it worth my time. Price would probably be around 250 shipped or so.id have to figure out the cost but that would get me a close ball park. Id have to look into shipping which would be $20 to 30$ This would be with silicone couplers, custom clear coated carbon fiber.

Id also include a carbon vlock off plate for the stupid intake muffler on the air box. Youd have to cut off the muffler and glue the cover on but thats no biggie. You guys are going to have me regretting selling my drop in filter lolol. I think this would work real well with the ram air attachnent

I have the stock box with K&N drop in, I also drilled and filed the stock grill openings blocking the inlet to the intake box cost $65.00 for the K&N and file.
