Hey folks,

I finally got around to buying the following kit from Steeda:
Steeda S550 Mustang Subframe Alignment and Support kit

Paid $167 shipped due to black Friday sale.

Called a local shop (RPM Autohaus) in Gainesville, Virginia to get a quote for installation plus alignment and I was quoted $600 all in.

does this seem right?

I live in Northern Virginia and if you know I can get this done cheaper elsewhere without sacrificing the quality of labor please let me know.

thanks!

UPDATE:
Installed the parts and everything went well.
Took the car in for alignment and the shop made the alignment to match Ford specs:

see picture below. Only thing that stands out are the final Camber numbers for front left and front right. Is this within normal range?

You could buy a jack, jack stands, the wrenches & sockets needed, get err done & still be less that $600. I would be asking if that $600 includes the alignment & a happy ending for that amount.

Watch a YouTube video, ask your dad for help etc. But by all means do not pay someone to do this easy stuff.

Look at the instructions on Steeda’s website. These two mods are about as easy as it gets. Remove one of the four blue bolts bolt at a time from the subframe, install the alignment dowel and torque to 129 ft-lbs.

thanks! i like to believe I am pretty good with working on my cars but wasn’t sure if this is something I can do on my own (no clue how involved this might be)

This includes alignment but felt pretty steep to me and 😂😂 no happy ending here.

i have jack stands and several sockets from 8mm to 30mm. Gonna watch a few Youtube videos and tackle it myself and save serious coin.

Appreciate it and I didn’t know if this is complicated or not. I have jack stands so once I watch a video or two I believe i will be comfortable enough to tackle this!

This is a 30 to 45 min. job. I'll be generous and say 1 hour + another hour for the alignment. Shop rates here are 100 per hour So 200 labor plus shop supplies.

It is easy to cross thread the big blue bolts. Also if your subframe is not centered from the factory you will need to loosen all the blue bolts.

Thanks! I will do that, only thing I need now is a good torque wrench for the 129 ft-lbs

Harbor Freight is a great place for this. Please don’t pay anyone to do this mod for you, it really is very simple.
Thanks for the education. I certainly felt like $600 was way too much for something like this but never having done anything to suspension/subframe I wasn’t sure what to expect. 👍🏼👍🏼

Should I loosen them at the same time or one by one as I install the centering piece?

I would loosen one at a time. If you can't get a bolt started by hand, then loosen all of them. If this happens you will need a pry bar to center the subframe. It's easy to do just hard to type out LOL.

What I did mine, I removed the whole subframe because I was installing differential bushings and a differential bracket. I used two floor jacks and a scissor jack to balance the differential (raising and lowering the entire assembly slowly and evenly). If you decide to drop the entire subframe, I recommend installing as many parts as you can that require the subframe to be lowered.

When it comes down to installations, I see it as "Do I pay $600 for someone else to do it, or do it myself & spend that $ on more car upgrades". If you get into a bind don't be afraid to make a thread asking questions. We'll all be happy to help.
