So I was super stoked to get my BMR springs in the mail today!! .....

UNTIL...

I was given an install estimate by my local "go to" shop of $815 incl. alignment...

Is this legit? That seems crazy.

Sounds like a deal........without lubrication. It really is so easy to do springs. Find a YouTube video "CJ Pony" and watch it. I can change these springs with my eyes closed. With the money you will pay them invest in basic tools, jack stands and a jack. Your local parts store should let you rent spring compressor and torque for free.

This is why I suffer through shock/spring install work myself. The labor can be easily as much or more than the parts. Especially if they charge by the book hours instead of actual hours.

It seems that 8 hours ($90 hourly) is a bit much ........

Like everyone said do it yourself. The job isn't too bad if you're mechanically inclined. We never did springs before and knocked it out in about 5 hours. But I've got air tools and the proper stuff to tackle it.

My buddy who is not went to Midas and they charged him $300 including install. The first time I had springs installed I found a guy on CL that charged me $150. It's not a complicated job. It's removing the old springs and putting in the new. Anyone can do it.
