How far can Sport Cup 2s wear before replacing if using it on dry track? I am down to 2.5-3mm of thread after one track weekend and would like to get another but pretty sure they will be completely slick after a few more sessions.

Also if anyone has any recommendations for a track tire that last more than 2 weekends please chime in.

If they feel ok, they are. The tread depth is meaningless although I suspect the tire will give up traction before it cords. It depends on you aggressiveness

I'm in the early phases of testing the goodyear supercar 3 (not the 3R) and it's looking like a very promising tire!

I was actually thinking about giving those a try, $100 a tire cheaper than the Cups.

What are your initial impressions on them?

If they last as expected, I prob won't buy a diff tire till something new comes out...

My data isn't perfect, I had loss of power all day due to a bad vct solenoid so my lap times were down, but buddy in a 2017 gt350 was on same tires for first time when we tested on friday and the week prior, similar temps, I was on RE71R and ran 1:38.86, he ran a 1:37.7x on friday on the SC3. this is at gingerman in michigan. My previous best on cup 2's was 1:40.12, but they only lasted 3 days so i prob could have found more time if i had more time to find the limits on them. 3 days isn't in my budget for ANY tire so won't be buying cup 2's again.

The data that helps from my car, is that my corner speeds and exit speeds were ALL higher on the SC3 vs RE71r, and max G forces of 1.41 vs 1.38 so the tires seem to have more lateral grip than re71r. I just lost time in the straights so overall lap times aren't helpful on my car.

I haven't pulled the wheels yet to see the full tread better, but based on what it looked like at the end of one day w/ 77 laps / approx 1 hr 30 min of lapping, I'm guessing I can get 10+ days out of them.

I have a lot of days scheduled this month so assuming i get the car fixed this week I should have more data about how long they will last and better lap times as the month goes on.

Hope that helps!

Which SC3 are you using? I noticed the measured tread width on the 305s are quite wide compared to the SC2, PSS and RE71R.

305/30/19. I didn't look at those specs so not sure. When I pull the wheels off I'll maybe take a pic of them next to the re71r

RE71R are not good on Mustangs. They are super sticky and overheat quickly but are fast when they are on light cars on cold days.

@16Kobra sent me a pic of his last set of tires. This is when .out guys chuck em.... but I don't wait that long. Have you ever seen what a tire delamimation does to your (and others) car?

Damn - he needs to check toe/camber.

While I agree with general sentiment of not running a tire too long, I do have 2 thoughts to add. First, the Michelins are a unique construction. They chunk a bit different than any other tire of dealt with. They have a very tough "inner" skin that I'm personally comfortable pushing a bit longer.

Second, "chunk" means different things to different folks. I'd never run them as long as your buddy did. I stop here give or take a few chunks:

I've pushed them longer, but they're generally slow as molasses by this point since they're heat cycled out already. Good to keep a spare set of tires for those occasions

That's the first question I asked him.... What is your camber set at?

Looks like toe to me, but hard to tell given how far he went with them.

they are fast on mustangs too, but yeah def can overheat and wear quickly. still a good benchmark for laptimes though imo, just not long sessions.

My thought was a combo of both. Either way, I would not be ok tracking those tires. The ones you see pictured were described to me as leftover tires from other track days.
