KB,
I’m being told 3 weeks just to get the trans. They have to follow a process with certain testing first then order trans which is 3 weeks away. Just to clarify I had her out the night before with no issues whatsoever. .Pulled her out at 3PM to take a nice ride to put some miles on her. Let her warm up for about 8 minutes after high idle settled I reversed her out then warmed it up. Reversed down to the street just fine then all hell started with all the faults wrench, Stuck in 4th, overheated clutch warning etc etc

Point is there were no warnings at all. Went from working fine to f***ed.

So what will be the options for guys that void the warranty? (i have not done this yet) Buy a new tranny? Hell, for what i have seen all the body parts retail for is this a $50K tranny from Ford? This transmission is scarring me right now, only from a standpoint if something goes wrong what can I do (outside of warranty).

Tony: I know very little about gearboxes and even less about this one. But to me, logic says the problem is not mechanical if it was fine and then not. Seems more like gremlins than a clutch issue.

As for the warranty, I feel you but don't have an answer.

KB, well I’m seriously happy I bought the best and longest Ford warranty plus a maintenance plan.
I dont have the answer as to what went wrong but hopefully I will get an answer and will push for went wrong. I would say if this goes rampant I am sure Ford will back everyone. When I pulled the codes they had to do with electronic over and undercurrent on fork movement, overheated clutch (impossible) as the car was just started. Trans cost part only 31K.

To others: I would highly suggest not messing with your car until after the winter. We all know its a risk to tune etc but its not worth that kinda cash. If you cannot drive this car without nannies and control it then why have more hp. I get it as I love the Torque and HP but these trannies aren’t fully proven IMHO.

sorry for the rant!!

Frank: The fact that it was cold obviously eliminates the overheated clutch code. Sure seems like a faulty temp sensor. Not sure about the fork movement but it could be related to the false temp, who knows. Bottom line, I honestly don't think it's mechanical. I suspect they'll just send a new gearbox as Tremec will certainly want to have a look at it.

I have seen wrenches again when the car is cold or very cool, well below oil getting above 180. Usually my wrenches show when car tranny and rear temp are around 120-130 max, the time I paid attention.

Just got another wrench last night car oil around 180 tranny and rear at 120-130. Wrench went away after a few minutes. Car ran fine.

Are you saying you got warning lights based on those temperatures?
When I went to Charlotte on Sunday It was sunny and in the high 80’s. My approximate temperatures ran for dif were 230+/- the transmission ran 200+/- the oil temp 200+/- and inlet charge temps 130+/-. I had no warnings, no problems what so ever. And I was hitting 150+ on the oval most of the time.
Now the owners manual states to not driving when transmission is below certain temperatures. However if you get warnings at that low temperatures something’s not right.

I am starting to think it’s some kind of cold temp warning. They all happened in cold or cool conditions and right after car started.

May be a low temp warning?????

Mine just occurred again. Drove car for 15 minutes and parked it at store.

Came back out and started car to see wrench.
Oil at 187-192
Tranny 124-125
Rear 103

Wrench came on and then went away in half a minute.

Outside temp 52. Seems to occur most often when outside is cold and this situation presents itself; cold to cool car, just run for a while but car or at least tranny and rear are pretty cool, wrench then goes away after a short amount of time with no drivability issues noticed.

No codes again???

Any suggestions for who at Ford that can support this? Dealership has not idea seeing no codes get thrown.

Where are you seeing owner manual saying not to drive when below a certain temp? Is that air temp, tranny, oil, ?????
