Something like 90% of horse owners are women. Women have much more interest in horses than men do. Look at the marketing materials for the Mach E and tell me this isn't the image they're going for. If current management at Ford has their way, what we think of as a Mustang will be irrelevant within five to ten years.

It's a better fit..

That's an interesting comment. I agree that women like horses. It didn't occur to me that women liking horses would translate to a woman wanting a car named Mustang. Most women barely know the name or year of their cars. In general cars tend to be appliances to women, not something they love and enjoy. My wife has an Escape. She has the base model because it's cheap. One of her criteria for buying was ground clearance - surprisingly Escape had more than the Explorer at the time. But she also wants a cheap car and she wants to keep it as long as possible. A starting price of $43k is more than she will want to spend.

I keep trying to figure out who Ford is marketing this car for. Maybe the Mustang name is for the husband whose wife is buying? So he can say he has a Mustang? For the kind of person who would buy a Dodge Caravan GT and tell others that it is fast?

I am a Ford guy like the rest of you fine folks but as a business person the first thing I think when I hear about splitting off product lines is it's "easier to go bankrupt and save what's making money".

Exactly! It'll be easier for them to shut it down... like they did with Mercury. But having too many sub-brands doesn't work. And at the end of the day (as Matt mentioned) a Ford is still a Ford. They're still struggling to separate Lincoln as a legitimate luxury brand... and it's been around for yeeeaars. How are they going to successfully manage these new sub-brands?

The company is run by overpaid and unimaginative MBAs with zero vision and very little real understanding of product.
Yup. Lots of people claim to be cooks, but non of them are real chefs.

Might be a weird comparison, but this whole thing made me think about the DC Universe vs DC Cinematic Universe -- They basically crapped on their existing fan base, didn't stay true to the source material, and most of the movies flopped. Hope Ford doesn't let the "Mustang brand" get watered down to the point of alienating their existing fanbase.

I can't wait for the soccer mom's in their Mach-E's to start showing up to car meets thinking they have a real Mustang :cwl::cwl::cwl:
I'm thinking they may be the stars. Crowds won't hear them coming.

Ford is run by idiots and there are days I wish it would just go bankrupt. That way all these morons can be tossed out and it could be restarted by people with more than one braincell.

See, this is what I don’t understand. They make a singular decision we don’t like and their all idiots. They should go bankrupt and possibly put 1000’s of regular folks out of work. The folks who built our Mustang’s. The folks who designed and build the GT350, the GT500, the Raptor, etc, etc.

I was 12 years old when the Mustang came out so I know all about the history but man we need to get a grip already. If you don’t like it fine, don’t buy it. You don’t like the name, OK, just suck it up and deal with it.

I think you are giving them too much credit... Looking at the overall business, they have made ALOT of mistakes which have put them into their current stock position. In relation to the mustang, they have upper level management that do not understand the heritage and are not car enthusiasts so they are making decisions on the fate of the mustang based off of market studies. I am sure there are a ton of engineers and "lower level" management (Dave Pericak included) that do understand but are being constantly disregarded. Overall since the recession, Ford has been VERY slow at adopting new technologies and the ones they do adopt usually have significant issues (myford touch, gen 3 plasma bores, etc...) that drive up their warranty costs....

I do not disagree with what you are say but I was referring to the elephant in the room that everyone just keeps dredging up over and over, the Mach-E. Wishing a major corporation would go bankrupt because they do not like the name of a car is just absurd. I don't like it either but I do not want people to lose their jobs over it. OK, so maybe Hackett :)

I don't think it's absurd at all. What is absurd is that Hackett and co are crapping all over 55 years of legacy with this turd minivan. A legacy that was not built by them but by all their predecessors and millions of customers. It's just too retarded for words. These people need to be fired today. Did Porsche name their minivan 911? No they named it Cayenne. Did Lamborghini name their minivan Countach or Aventador? No, they named it Urus. NONE of the performance car manufacturers have come up with the idea of bastardizing their legacy sports car model names for their minivan products. Because it makes zero sense. I couldn't care less if Ford comes out with 10 electric minivans. But they will never be Mustangs and people who care about Mustang should not just let this be. There is nothing wrong with being outspoken about this heresy and I for one will remain that way until the last Mach-E with a Mustang emblem on it lies face down at the junk yard.

OK, so maybe Hackett :)
I'm with you there, but it would not be enough. Everyone responsible for that naming decision needs to go. The insiders know exactly who these people are and who are the ones that only say they agree on camera because they would get sacked if they didn't.

True, but you have to agree that's at least 5 classes lower on the retarded scale.
I've never agreed with anything and am not about to start now!

The direction Ford is taking the Mustang makes it more and more likely that I will either be going to GM/Chevy or Chrysler/Dodge route on my next purchase.
