What does the intake sound tube do and can it be bypassed, any gain in power?

Short answer, it pipes noise into the cabin for no reason. Rip it out, cap the ends, but don't expect any gains...

If you decide to take it off, there's a nut that bolts it to the firewall. You can get easier access to this from the front left wheel well... wish I knew that when I took mine off!

Disconnect from intake tube, separate at middle section, yank up hard, breaks off, done. After the extraction, you can hand spin the nut off if you want :)

 It takes 2 fricken minutes to undo the nut with a 10mm box end wrench.

OP: Yeah it just plumbs sound into the cockpit. Frankly I never noticed before/after. Zero power gains if removed. I removed mine to declutter then engine bay.

Why bother spending 2 mins with a wrench? Mine took 5 seconds to pull up and pull it out.

It does not do much for the GT if you have a aftermarket exhaust..it does help the ecoboost version sound better inside the cabin. If you do decide to take it out ,would be a good idea to plug the firewall ,never know rodents could try to get inside or something.

A stubby ratcheting wrench is your friend. It's easy to get at from above.

I have short but huge arms and I could get mine down there even without removing the Strut tower brace.

If I can get my arms in there anyone can.
