Anyone taken theirs out and how was the process?

I've been reading on the US forums and they say it is quite tight to do, then I saw an Aussie comment that it is a LOT harder on our RHD cars?

Wondering what peoples experiences have been like and what you used to plug up the air hole?

Did you just leave the firewall bolt in place?

Cheers

Hi Don,
I used the Boomba Racing sound tube delete kit. [ MUSTANG GT SOUND TUBE DELETE - Boomba Racing, Inc. ] but I'm sure you could improvise with bits from Bunnings. Fortunately I have the hands of a 5yo child & was able to get the 10mm nut off holding the soundtube to the firewall, aside from that the install is straight forward

I also used the Boomba kit.
Getting into stupid tight spots to remove and fit things is what I do for a job so it was no problems. I undid the nut and removed the pipe from the stud.
If you jack the car, you can undo a bit from underneath and some from above.

If I leave the nut in place, will I be able to plug the hole by hand? I have fairly small hands but I have heard that in our RHD cars it is more difficult than LHD cars. Raising the car isn't an option unfortunately.

It's much easier to add an irrigation valve where the tubing connects to the air cleaner. Cut one rubber tube and add the valve. Search and you will find many posts on the valve part number and directions.

Removing the sound tube is easy on RHD - I removed mine with the Ford Performance PP2 install - Reach down from the passenger side near the battery with a sideways hand and you can undo the nut with a small spanner then put a grommet in the hole - Easy as.

Nobody knows the benefits of removing the sound tube? Or why Ford bothered to fit it in the first place if it isn't needed or wanted?

It looks like it is the same as the symposer (sp?) in the Jags (which I know a little more about). Essentially it is a tube that carries sound from the engine bay through the firewall and into the cabin. Some consider that it is artificial (the sound isnt artificial as in made up, but you wouldnt normally hear it), so they block it off.

Personally I dont have an issue with artificial noise, whether generated by the sound system (as happen's in my wife's car when you put it in dynamic mode, the 4 pot turbo sounds like a little throbby v8), or by piping real engine noise in from the engine bay as happens in the F Type or the Mustang. I havent driven a mustang with the tube blocked off so I dont really know the difference, but I think that for me as a nut for exhaust sound, the overall sound in the cabin is too quiet, it sounds far better from the outside, and you only really get to hear that with the windows down going through an underpass or tunnel.

I have had this issue with a previous car (5 litre supercharged XKR), and found that when I had to take the rear quarter glass out to tint it, the increase in sound was epic, I was disappointed to put it back in. It would be much better if the rear quarterglass could be wound up and down or cracked open, to let that juicy sound into the cabin where it belongs.

There are no benifits in removing it except for deleting a rubber pipe in the engine bay that may offend. When left on It does produce a very small sound like a tweeney little SC but hardly noticeable. I have the on/off tap on mine and a sound comparison is easy.

The tube transmits sound but IMHO it's a weird little noise and not worth keeping particularly since removing the tube declutters the engine bay quite nicely. IIRC the stock exhaust actually sounded cleaner without it.

Is this tube found only in the V8?

I actually quite like the whine noise from the mustang, it does sound like a supercharger, though not like the Hellcat or anything...
