It really was. And the fact that he isn't ashamed of it, defending it even, brings it to even higher levels of douchebaggery.
Yea, wow...when I saw this posting yesterday I thought the OP meant the stranger had paid more than what he needed for the gas - just $10 worth.

You should at least leave your number with the cashier. This worked for me at a Taco Bell drive-thru couple years ago.

I think everyone needs to just chill...cause honestly if the OP is a douche he really doesn't give a crap about everyone's opinion. However, the more likely story is he was speaking "tongue in cheek" and just made an error in judgment.

Either way, "he who is without sin, cast the first stone".
That's the way I felt when I read his first post. He has to be joking. No big deal. Then he comes on and shrugs it off and it still isn't a big deal but, seriously?

Small town America still exists. Hell, where I'm from a lot of places still don't accept credit/debit cards but you can write checks all day long.
Yeah no thanks, waiting 10 minutes for an old lady to write/balance her checkbook while I'm waiting in line is terrible.

Am i the only one that's wondering how you can pump BEFORE you pay still? I haven't seen that in years.
Smallish town. Everyone knows everyone. The do make you "wave" to them to acknowledge for the cameras you intend to pay inside.

Dude...seriously.......relax....ever heard of sarcasm

You act like I am walking around asking for hand outs. I guess some things dont translate well to car forums. Stop trying to make an issue out of nothing. It isn't a big deal. Stop trying to make it one.

Im not making anything out of it. Like I said it's no big deal. It is a head shaker though. Using your words, it is what it is.

If someone asks me for money for gas, I tell them I'll put a few gallons in their tank but I'm not giving them cash. Most times they'll decline but I have hooked a couple people up who were in need. Same when someone asks for money for food. I'll offer to buy them some burgers or something from whatever is close. Most just walk away.
Really? This never happens in the UK, and if it did. I very much doubt if anybody would pay their petrol, also depends on the motor i suppose.

In Europe you usually have the choice of paying by card at the pump or putting it in then paying in the shop
Most places in the UK still do payment only by the shop
