All those folks in the EU best get their orders for Mustangs in now.

https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2...ment-mandates-speed-limiters-on-all-new-cars/

Seems like the obvious consequence of letting a bunch of folks who have regulatory authority sit around with nothing to do. Here's the primary source article from the EU committee itself, presented in an unsurprisingly self-congratulatory tone: https://etsc.eu/meps-back-life-saving-vehicle-safety-standards-in-key-vote/ Note the "no time to lose" quote.

The real hook is will this encourage the congresscritters here in the US to adopt some similar measure "since the automakers are already putting it on the cars they sell in Europe".

Next-seatbelts that surround you once seated in your car.

Once AI arrives, and we become surrounded by cameras, plus all the products we will buy have that computers with camera and microphones, and then to top it off becoming a socialist (communist society), well, we won't even be able to fart without AOC sending us a ticket.

Part of the spice of life is the risk. I would much rather live a slightly shorter but much more interesting life, than a longer but very uninteresting one. I think people forget that the reason to be alive is to live not just to breath, which includes doing exciting but potentially risky activities. Totally agree with Zooks, it is coming and they will not be satisfied by applying to new/future cars. It will be retrofit. And if your house is burning or being broken into and you are desperately trying to get home, or your spouse/kids are dying and you would like to have your last words, too damn bad.

Reminds me of the old joke where a guy goes to the doctor for a checkup and asks, "So doc, do you think I'll live to be 100?"
The doctor says, "Do you smoke?"
"Nope."
"Drink?"
"Nope."
"Chase women?"
"Nope."
"Then why do you want to live to be 100?"

AI will kill the freedom of the automobile. Just wait until insurance companies start requesting the ECU/TCU/BCU recorded information 30-45 seconds prior to accident. Lotta people will start losing coverage.

I'm a simple man. I see something that looks exciting and I do it. Do now and ask questions later. Don't wonder what if...

It turns out that Ford already has a system in some of its cars sold in the EU. One such model is the Focus, all of which are about to get the system.

http://brochure.ford.co.uk/ui/player.html?model=newfocus&market=en-gb&visual=IntelligentSpeedAssist

In the implementation in the video, the driver can turn it on and off. Regulations will probably go after the OFF button.

One other thing. At 0:25 into the video, is that a HUD on the Focus? WTF doesn't the Mustang get this (although it looks like an ugly implementation)?

Now the people that know everything are saying that the automobile has reached it peak in sales, that young people or not interested in ownership. Ride share is their answer.

Which fits into the driverless electric cube that will be at our beckon call, in the future, for our transportation needs.

Mad Max will live again

Ask someone, "What is the job of a politician?" They will most likely answer with, "To represent the people and their ideas of social and economical structure."

WRONG. A politician's job may have been that at one time. The job of a politician is to stay in office. Which is why they are worthless people.

They say it will save 1,700 lives per year out of a population of 512.6 million. Nothing wrong with saving peoples lives. Now, how much extra time commuting will it add per year in total. Quality of life cost..... So what is also interesting is during the transition period, you will have new cars driving the speed limit and older cars just carrying on, so in other an overall greater discrepancy in speed between the new cars and the old. That could result in an increase accidents......hmmmmm. Maybe they factored that into the 1,700...
