So my car is “awaiting shipment”. So is it just sitting outside waiting on a truck?

I don't know how it's done now.
Years ago I often had to drive by a GM plant fairly often. The pre shipment lot was several city blocks on a side. It was a pretty incredible sight on loading days to see the line of cars heading to that long, long, long train.
So, yeah, it's probably sitting outside in a sea of others just like it.

"Awaiting Shipment" means that it is at the Flat Rock plant waiting for acceptance by the rail company.

Next step will be "In Transit". First step of In Transit is to move it over to the rail yard, where it will wait for an indeterminate amount of time for enough cars to fill a train car carrier destined for your local distribution center. Once that train car carrier is filled, it will go on via railto a large MI train yard for that train car carrier to be attached to a train to your regional distribution center. From there, it's onto a truck to your local dealer.
