Why does shutting the engine off quickly after a dyno pull stress the cats? I would have thought not running exhaust gas through them would let them cool faster.
Its literally the WORST, thing you can do, and will 100% lead to a cat failure. Since it shutting off the engine actually heats the cats up. The engine running, actually cools the cats, since oxygen would warm them. (AKA, shutting off the engine allows fresh air to come into the exhaust pipes)

When cats go into "cool down mode" the engine actually makes the car extra rich, to stave the cats for oxygen. ;)

How is it going for boosted cars running cats?

Looking for 9-10lb pump gas or pump gas/additive type setups

Just curious if peeps have been melting cats or running into issues
Late reply but I’ve been at ten-ish PSI on my 3.2 KB for approx 16k with factory cats with zero issues. Mines tuned to be fat when it counts though since I don’t need to eek out every ounce of power like an NA car.

5k miles on Whipple stage 1, no issues. Car has seen a dyno session, and multiple track days at this point. No issues to report. Stock Whipple tune/91 pump gas with Boostane every track outing.

Put 50,000 miles on the 03 Cobra with a Whipple 2.3 installed at 70,000 miles. Made 16# boost through factory cats and Magnaflows. Cats were still working well at 120,000 miles when I sold the car in October.

Will give ya an update later, but the new to me 16 GT has good cats, and a VMP 2.3 blower making about 9#. So far, so good.

What's special about the cats on a hellcat or gt500? Size?
My theory is larger diameter catalyst for a lower specific heat load and also most likely a more accurate cat temp math model in the pcm. I would like to know if the predator cats are larger and if they will retrofit to the gen3 5.0.

That's interesting you mention the temp model. The whipple tunes and few roush tunes I've looked at on the hptuners board show adjustments to the cat temp tables.

I'll have to revisit those tables. Curious what they adjusted.

Stock cats with Paxton 3.6 pulley on 93 octane. Car has roughly 55k miles now and been supercharged since about 25k miles. No issues or thrown codes so far. Only a fun street car, no extreme (140+) highway pulls.

My car threw a P0420 CEL a few weeks ago. I cleared it and about 150 miles later it came back. The other night after a hard run on the freeway the CEL went off. Took it to the dealer on Monday and as of yesterday they said they had two new cats being delivered and were going to replace the old ones. I have a 2018 with a Roush SC installed and still running the Roush tune.

i know youve gotten a ton of responses already but i ran my KB car for over a year with cats. 18k miles, never an issue. when i took them off they werent collapsed at all.

Currently at around 14500 miles w/ ROUSH Phase 1 SC and tune. Had my driver's side cat replaced at around ~8300 miles when I got a check engine light with the the code P0430 "Catalyst System Efficiency below threshold on Bank 2". No issues since then.

Is bank 2 the drivers side? Seems like most get the p0430 code. Is the drivers side (the expensive side) the one that fails most often?

Heck, I still can't figure out Ford V8 cylinder numbering even after owning em for 30 years. I learned on the General where the driver side are 1 3 5 7.
