Why are slotted rotors more expensive (by a LOT) than the rubbish drilled+slotted options? Aren't those combo rotors more labour intensive vs simply, and only, slotting a rotor?

P.S; Since I have this nagging feeling that someone is going to ask 'why' - I don't want drilled rotors due to the high likelihood that they will fracture. My car is a daily that sees a track day at least 2x a month and a lot of backroads misbehaving.

You answered your own question. Because the slotted and drilled are rubbish. It has nothing to do with how labor intensive they are. Besides they’re all CNC machined, so for the manufacturer is the difference between which file they send to the CNC machine

There are decent slotted rotors out there for good prices, you just have to stick with one piece brakes to keep cost down. CJ’s carries Raybestos now (I use these—pretty well built):

Looks like StopTech has their slotted units for the S550 Mustang now too (I had these on my BMW…good stuff):

But right, you won’t find Ebay-cheap-drilled/slotted-low prices. Those brakes are scary bad.

Those stoptecs are what I'm used to seeing but the the ones from CJ... Wow that's a wild look. Is there a beneficial reason that they are designed that way? It doesn't look like the gasses would be able to escape vs the traditional slotting of the stoptecs.

And yeah, all the slotted+drilled combos I've been finding on eBay are generally 80-130ish usd for the pair but the moment I look up slotted only, the price for just a pair is suddenly nearly 300usd, wtf? (I figure if I'm going to spend near that much that I may as well just find a used 4pot or 6pot PP brake setup, sheesh. But that's way too much braking for the courses I stick to, I think)

I don’t think the Raybestos S slots are any better or worse than the traditional diagonal line slots. Could be off here; maybe a brake guru will chime in with specifics.

KNS Brakes have lots of great options. I use DBA 4000 slotted rotors. Work great and very reasonably priced
Tried looking for it by inputing my car's info, 2015 base V6, and no rotors turn up with KNS. However, when putting in ecoboost/GT with PP, then DBA T3 4000 rotor shows up at 173usd PER rotor... Is this what you were talking about?

I've got Stoptech slotted on the wifes car. No brake expert here, but they fare way better than stock rotors for the Fusion they're on.
I thought they were/are reasonably priced.

That is correct.

I just checked myself and their selection shrunk big time. They used to offer way more options. I wonder if all the current shortages affected them

Could have. But as the chap before you pointed out, stoptec makes exactly what I'm looking for... But at 600 for all four wheels, I feel like I'm backed into a corner and just better off buying a used PP big brake set :/

Thats unfortunate. When I was shopping for rotors Stoptech had many different options. I got mine thru Summit Racing. But I'll admit my last purchase was 18 months or so ago. I paid about $130/rotor for 2 cryo treated slotted rear rotors for a 14 Fusion EB. Which is a pretty good price for cryo rotors IMO.

RockAuto has the Raybestos cheaper than CJs but don’t know about shipping

Guys! I think I've hit gold!
R1concepts has reasonably priced rotors that are slotted only (other options available too)
Have any of you dealt with R1Concepts?
They're cheap, yeah, but my thinking is it's iron, it shouldn't be too hard to make a quality rotor.

Thoughts?
