Hi guys, may need a new throw out bearing shortly. Searched the forums and I've seen some folk using the stock one and others using aftermarket. Trying to clue myself up just in case. I'm happy to pay for a more expensive aftermarket one if it's better but from my experience, just because it's more expensive, doesn't mean it's better.

Looking for some advice on what to go for and why you think that please? Any vendors on here care to share their knowledge and experience with selecting a TOB?

Thanks in advance.

My research is they are pretty similar in design. Just don't pay more than $150. I think Mcleod has one for $119 at AM.

Thanks. That was my thought process as well. Found a lot of options out there. I'm running a Mantic 9000 twin disc so wasn't sure if a stock TOB would be adequate for the increased pressure required for a twin disc or if something beefier was a better way to go. Running the one which came with the Mantic Clutch which I believe is a stock part but there's an issue with it not engaging smoothly and it's pretty noisy at the point of engagement. Possibly a dud so looking to swap it out.

The descriptions online allude to aftermarket TOBs being 'heavy duty' or 'specifically engineered to meet or exceed factory specifications.' Does this make them better?

The McLeod one you referenced seems like the best option 'working with all aftermarket clutches' (including twin discs like RST and RXT) but it's also the cheapest option compared to others I found including OEM, Exedy and Centric.

Maybe beefcake or LethalPerformance have some experience or knowledge with these?

Excellent question as far as pressure standpoint. I haven't found another tob that seems beefier. Do you have a stainless braided or hard clutch line? Maybe that plastic stock one isn't delivering all the Mantic needs. Just shooting from the hip...idk.

Mcleod or Exedy would be fine and we can get you either one quickly. Shoot me a PM if you need any help.

I have the Steeda stainless line so I don't think that's a problem but from a trouble shooting perspective, I had everything installed in one go so really can't tell what a difference each individual part made and therefore can't rule out anything in particular. Good idea though.

On another note, I reached out to Geoff at Mantic and he confirmed that the slave included in their kit is a Ford OEM piece. "Due to the design of the Mantic with the sprung hub and lighter pedal, there's no need for an upgraded slave as the pressure required is the same as stock." May not be the case for those with a traditional twin disc like an RST/RXT which would require more pressure.

Thanks Terry. Will do.
