Hi all

I'm looking at getting a short shifter just not sure what one.

I'm leaning towards the Ford performance one just to keep with the Ford theme.
Just want to know if anyone has a short shifter and what brand they used and how much did they pay for both the parts and install.
I've heard Steeda's are great but can allow a bit of heat into the car.
MGW's sound good too.
Just like to get your guys feedback.

Thanks

I did a lot of research on this and landed on the MGW shifter so that is where my bias is.

Ford peformance: honestly I wouldn't recommend it as it isn't a true short shifter, it won't help with high RPM lockouts it just alters the fulcrum point

Steeda: It came out after I purchase the MGW, seems to be a capable unit, appearance wise looks similar to Barton.

MGW: Probably my favourite mod, amazing shifter, it can rattle though on constant high rpm runs when it heats up though which is a negative.

What I would strongly recommend though, is wait until you have the car and see if you like it or not. Some users seem to get better transmissions than others.

Thanks for the info.

I have my car already and the shifting is OK. I get the occasional high RPM lockout.
With the MGW shifter do you push down and up for reverse ? and what did it cost you for parts and install ?
Thanks for your help

Yeah, I second Aus-MustangGT's sentiments. MGW is great. No lockouts, push down reverse

I think I paid around $800 delivered for the shifter, install was around $450-500 I think, but had other stuff installed at the same time (AUD).

Have you considered swapping out the engine mounts? Much cheaper than a shifter and much easier to install. Less engine twist, less lockouts.

MGW all the way. I paid approx A$740.00 delivered with adapter to keep original knob. If your handy with spanners you can fit in about 3-4 hrs. Not too hard an install just not a lot of room to move.

Happy with my Ford Performance shifter but probably had a decent transmission to start with. In 4th can hear some vibration come through but no lock outs ever. No idea on other brands and unfair to comment on them as have no experience with them.

I'm looking at a Barton shifter.

Burkey, have you got the UPR street mounts in? How are they?

I have the Ford Performance shifter as well. Since I was at Herrod's getting a bunch of other Ford Performance kit fitted at the time I chucked on the shifter as well, cost me $650.

I also had the Steeda transmission insert installed at the same time, which I wouldn't recommend as it has definitely increased vibration coming up through the cross member into the tunnel.

On the shifter itself I don't have any problems with it, it is by far much stiffer and solid then the standard, it uses a metal bearing rather then the stock plastic one, much shorter throw too. On my track day where I was really getting onto it there were no missed shifts or lockouts.

Although I'd probably go the MGW, but I decided to keep it all FP branded gear.
