But still, how do you lose it so badly on a clean, dry road, in a straight line?
I did once try to see how the car would behave if I stepped on the brake as hard as I could at high speed (not on a public road). I got 0.97 G. The car stopped dead in its tracks without veering even one centimeter left or right. I was really impressed.
I can see this happening if you brake hard in a corner, with the ABS disabled. But in a straight line? How?

That stuff can help your career. I once hired a guy because of it. He was working in another department, and I noticed a photo album on his desk as I walked by his cubicle. I was waiting for someone so asked what's in the album. He says pictures of cars he'd owned. I say I'm into cars, can I see them? It was nothing but very badly wrecked cars! I was impressed by his never stop trying attitude.
