When I was a kid, one of my brothers had a friend with a 1968 Mach 1. It was dark red, black interior, blacked out hood, Magnum 500 wheels and had the rear window louvers. I feel in love. When I was able to buy my first new car, I bought a 1985 Mustang LX 5.0 notch. I've owner 3 others since then including my current 2015 GT.

1973. I was 2. My parents had been gone most of the day. Around 5 or so this giant car pulls into the driveway. A 1970 Medium Lime Metallic fastback. 302, automatic, window louvers, basic black interior. That ended up being the family car for a few years with the 6 of us crammed in. Ah the good old 70's with not having to use seatbelts. While we had it my dad converted it to 4 speed, someone stole the louvers, it had gotten hit on the driver's door and wasn't fixed. In 1988 they were considering selling it. The engine had blown, and me and my dad put in a temporary 302 which ended up having bad rings so it burned oil. We then had the original engine rebuilt and we reinstalled it and I took over ownership. Got a job in the parts department of our local Ford dealer so I could get as many factory parts to restore it. Put a Holley on it but couldn't afford to do much more than that so sadly I had to give it up. I went without a Mustang for about 18 months until I bought my 98 SN95. Had that one until 2017 when some jagoff crashed into it. Didn't leave a note, no witnesses. Insurance totalled it so then I bought my current '15 Ecoboost. When this new design debuted, I initially didn't like it. Now that I have one, I love it.

The old 70 stayed in the family somewhat until recently when my mom's cousin, who owned it for a while, sold it a couple of months ago. If I had the money, I'd track it down and offer whatever the current owner wanted and fix it up like I wanted so many years ago.

Only Mustang for me. It has its flaws, and I've driven current design Camaros for work. Seen videos with head to head comparisons and how it handles way better than the Mustang. Still won't change my mind. Only Mustang for me.

I grew up in Dearborn, right outside the gates of Ford's engineering complex. Everything in that town is Ford. The schools are named after Fords. The cops drive Fords. Many people living there work for Ford.

My interest started with the 1987 GTs, and continued from there. My first adult experience happened with a girl driving her dad's brand new 1988 GT. She let me drive the car, and then her. 🤣 😂

I bought a 65 Mustang because they were cheaper than GM and Mopar performance cars, and full size Fords. It was totaled when a lady with an Imperial blew through a stop sign, less than 2 years old. I bought my second Mustang (2018) because I wanted a performance convertible with a decent sized back seat for the grandkids. The only other cars that fit the criteria (especially the rear seat space)were the BMW 650i and M6 at double or triple the price.

I lived in Greece from 1991-2012 and when I returned moved from New York to Delaware.

Out of all the cars tI saw on the road, the Mustang stood out. I just liked the design.

So after driving a temp car for a few years, in 2015 I got the s550 v6

I bought a 71 coupe with a 302 and a stick from a classmate for $75. It was a rot box with lots of bondo and bo heat. Sucked driving in the winter. The flywheel and everything else was in the trunk so a buddy of mine helped tow it home with garden hoses and a worn out tire. Snapped it off in a five corners intersection. There was a bad snowstorm the next day and the car was covered in a snow drift. I dug out the trunk and a small hole under the door to get the parts under the car for install. Never drove a stick before but we took a bunch apart in shop class so I knew how it all worked. My Mom drove out Buicks for years and gave me a lesson. That was in 1981.
I bought a 73 coupe in 1985 for next to nothing. It had been vandalized and the guy was headed to boot camp in a week so he needed it gone. They had stolen the b&m shifter and all the hardware to use it in their car. It had blue trans fluid which leaked out when using the ignition lock collar on the column to put it in gear. The servo cover was missing the bottom bolts and once I replaced them I was on the road. The car was a gorgeous red with black vinyl roof and black bucket interior. There was one major problem which I overlooked and it is not advised. The frame rail where the steering gear mounted was loaded with cracks and the bolts would occasionally pull through and lock the steering. Ended up trading it for a PA system for my band.
That’s funny, my first car was a 71 coupe with a 351C 2v. Also had some bondo bodywork. 😂 Had to sell it for a commuter car to make the 30 mile drive to and from college. One of only 2 cars I’ve owned and ever regretted selling. The other being an 03 10th Anniversary SVT Cobra.

Wife was hired out of college as a logistics manager in Flat Rock (has been in Dearborn for the last 13 years), worked on the new generation Mustang in 2004. I tried leasing one, but it was about $600 a month, so I leased that meh looking 2004 Pontiac GTO for 2 years to see if I liked having a summer toy.

Bought my first GT in 2019, sold it immediately when Ford introduced Eruption Green in 2021 and ordered/bought my current car.

You got the meh part right on the GTO. Very Cavalier/Cobalt looking. But they could fly back in the day and they sound good.

When it came time to buy my first car in 1981, I wanted a MOPAR. Specifically a 68-70 Dodge Charger but a later model Charger, Roadrunner, Challenger, Cuda, etc. would work too. This was during a time when these cars were just used cars so they were actually affordable. I drove a few of the ones on my list but I hated them. Chryslers of this era have over assisted P/S and crappy brakes. How could something so cool looking drive so bad? Something about never meeting your hero I guess.

Then one day I was sitting in a class mates car in shop class. A 68 Mustang coupe with a 289 V8. All of the sudden it hit me. This is a small car and it has a V8 engine!! I was already a Ford fan. After all it was Ford that won Le Mans, Indy and Daytona. Dodge and Plymouth had history in NASCAR but they never won Le Mans or Indy.

So the hunt started for a Mustang. In the early 80's the 64.5-68 model years were already expensive so we moved up to the 69-73 model years. We finally found a 71 coupe with a 302 2V automatic in medium green metallic. I feel in love with that car and Mustangs in general.

That 71 Mustang started it all for me. The Mustangs after that one include three 1985 Mustangs (2 GTs and 1 SVO) a 2012 Pony Package Mustang and my current 2017 GT. I still have the last 85 GT my wife and I bought in 2010. It is a true little old lady's car with only 61K miles.

Looking back, I should have just started looking for a Mustang. I mean, I was born in 1964 just a few weeks after the first Mustangs were sold to the public.

My story, is short and sweet

7 years of saving, working, and watching Top Gear looking to fuel a newfound passion for cars, and replace my cold, soulless BMW with something genuinely cool.

Then the GT500 came out.

On the test drive, somewhere around 8k rpm, at totally legal speeds, in track mode with the exhaust just roaring away and several million, totally unnecessary, insanely rapid downshifts later, I genuinely lost it and let out an unregulated and unhinged “caveman giggle”. Sold my truck, bought a dirt cheap beater, tracked one down in my exact desired spec and….

….I am now a mustang guy. It’s almost as much fun just to look at it.

I consider myself a newbie when it comes to Mustangs…Been a Ford guy since the 80s and always wanted a Mustang or a Vette but not practical raising a family…I was into Harleys back in the day and still am but now find myself riding less and driving the Mustang more…Fast forward to 2014 when the new S550’s came out and I said to myself I have to have one…so we gave our daughter the wife’s Camry and bought an 2015 Ecoboost Premium for the wife. I sold it in 2020 right after I retired and ordered a new 2021 GT and proceeded to put over 40k on it in 2 years touring the good old USA.

BTW, original poster, Ford's name for that slightly purplish blue was "Sonic Blue".

I grew up in Fords, mostly a '66 Fairlane convertible with a 289. My dad actually had a red '66 Mustang convertible (six cylinder, 3-speed manual) briefly before that, but my mom had surgery on her right hip and the bucket seats hurt, so he traded it for the Fairlane.

I was 17, it was October 1976, and I was driving a '68 Ford Falcon Futura. It was a 200 cubic inch straight six, originally with three on the tree. A previous owner disconnected that linkage, cut a hole in the trans tunnel and installed, of all things, a Hurst Competition shifter. In a Falcon with a bench front seat. You had to keep the seat all the way back or you couldn't shift into third gear.

Then I was rear-ended and it totaled the Falcon. The car that hit me? A beautiful '73 Mustang Mach One.

So it's time to go find another set of wheels. My dad found a '69 Mustang coupe with a 302 and 98,000 miles. We looked it over and bought it for $1000. I drove it for ten years, put a new short block in it at 211,000 miles, and sold it - for $1000 - at 263,000 miles.

The rest is history. I've been driving them since i was 17. The '69 was a C4 automatic car, but the rest have all been manual gearboxes, and the last two have tops that go down. Back to the open-air joys of the '66 Fairlane I grew up riding in, and later, driving.
Yes sonic blue. I loved thdt color. Ty. I do love the kona blue as well.

Bought my first car in 2015. I went to Ford looking for a Fusion in titanium trim but could not find what I wanted. I got blocked in by the delivery truck, and loaded in it was a Competition Orange Mustang. Not sure what came over me, but I had to have it, back up and called the sales guy over and told him I wanted the Orange one on the truck. Fell in love instantly. It was a 2016 V6. Was great for a first car for a 21 year old at the time. Trade it in 4 years later for a F-150. Traded that in a Palisade, and had an MB E63 for a couple months after that. Traded in the E63 on a 2021 Antimatter Blue GT. Currently have the GT as my toy, and a XC90 as my daily. Needless to say, I've always been a car guy and jump from brand to brand, but the Mustangs seems to stick around for me.

I’ve been a Mopar guy my whole life, the only exception being the ‘67 Mustang Fastback. My dad has owned multiple Barracudas my whole life, including a ‘68 convertible and a ‘68 Charger he currently owns. I never had any interest in the fox, or SN95/New Edge. Then the S197 came out and I remember thinking, oh man, Ford finally got a good looking Mustang again, good for them. Then the S550 came out and I fell in love.

Parallel to this I grew up poor, always had shitty used cars my buddies (deservingly) made fun of. Met my wife, got married, had kids, got a good job, paid off the cars, 20% down on a house, zero debt. My wife and kids want for nothing, it’s time for me to spoil myself for once.

I ordered my car from the factory, waited a couple months and the moment I saw her I was in love. I said I didn’t even need to test drive it but the saleswoman made me. I found a freeway on ramp, slide the car sideways getting on and the saleswoman screamed, then said it was the most fun she’s had in a while. Still talk to her when I swing by to get little parts here and there…

Jolene was paid off in just over two years, she’s got a big list of mods that grows all the time. I love her.
