Gorgeous vehicle and yep, red looks most excellent on black.

But those old-style hood pins...glad they finally figured that equation out, the new ones are SO much better. :-)
Thanks KB.

I am not sold on the new pins. Maybe, when I see them in person. But, again, I like old school, pins hanging when hood up to me is cool. Chrome/polished wheels and not black wheels.

I am still of the belief, the black wheel craze is because the auto manufactures have figured out most people dont wash the wheels and the brake dust collected. Thus, lets make the wheels black and no one(the average person, not us OCD people) will notice the dust on the wheel.

16K: Your post made me smile because it mirrored how I felt "back in the day" about hood pins and chrome/aluminum wheels. Also, your idea on the reason behind black wheels definitely makes a lot of sense. I also think part of the reason can be attributed to the "younger generation's" affection for "black."

But trust me on this, the first time you open and close the hood on the new girl, you're gonna love the new pins. Engineering that was long overdue, IMHO.

Nonetheless, I'm ALL for keeping the memories alive so "rock on, dude!" <grin>

It will be a few yrs for me and a new GT500. I did not buy my 2007 until 2012. Now, I just purchased the 2019 R and having fun with it.

Now, Ford brings back the Bronco. I have a 71 and have wanted a new one for a while, so that may be my next purchase.

Time will tell.

In that case amigo, best of luck and I hear ya on the Bronco but if you get a chance to see a new 500, absolutely, positively get someone to show you the new pins and how they work.

WOW, a SEVENTY-ONE! That is TOO cool, man. Is it a 289..390? (Thinking back a bit more clearly, '71 might have been too late for either of those motors. 351 perhaps?) But ohhh, the memories. :-)

Enjoy them all, I say.

I'd wager that '71 has a 302 if it's original, or a six. ;)

Looking forward to seeing the new version beyond the spy pics. Looks promising, but no GT500.

SW: Yep, based on my limited experience in the new car, that's a most difficult hill to climb. Apples and oranges, really I suppose.

And roger on the 302, that's one I should have remembered to mention. Hopefully for 16K's sake, it isn't a six. :-)

I have seen the new 500 but did not spend much time "looking" at it. One should show up soon at a local show. Just a matter of time.

Bronco started its life with a 289, then someone put in a 302. I rebuilt it once, then found a 351W, added 289 heads and some other "go fast" parts and she pushes somewhere around 600 HP at flywheel.

I know exactly what you are referring to, I also come from that era, and love that look.

However, on modern cars, and this car specifically, the new hood pins are the best match in my opinion.

Wheels.... I hear you, it took me years to tolerate black wheels. This car specifically completely covers the whole wheel in break dust in about 50 miles of normal driving. I have though about changing them out, but if they were chrome or silver, they wood be nasty instantly. This is why I have given up on changing them on their car.

Bringing this thread back to life for anyone on the fence about getting a GT500 in Shadow Black. I snagged these photos of my 2020GT 500 with my phone at photo shoot for a certain wheel company...

I’m doing the same with full clear bra on mine before I take delivery. Was think about painting the front spoiler black as well.
